| After an amusing morning sorting through the local dead snowmobile / bike graveyard, we found a promising looking pipe for an exhaust. It is from a 350cc motorbike (2 stroke) and fits neatly. I bought a little thin steel rod so I can make up some loops to hold it to the existing header. Bolts and springs will hold it snug, yet leave room for movement and vibration. I got two electric bilge pumps from Wal-Mart ($9 each) and tubing to fit. I think one each side will do the job should we start to leak badly.I have a switch for the dashboard to control them. I sent off for and received a set of prop hubs, bushings and sheaves from Universal Hovercraft. They came to approx $300 which was a little cheaper than I could find locally and they are certainly much lighter. The wooden large sheave is neat, compared to the cast iron 30lb version I was looking at previously. The order was not perfect however and the 19" shaft came in at 36", so cutting will be needed - a tough job on a hardened steel 1" rod. One of the bushings also came with an external key that prevented it fitting so that needed to be ground off. The small ali sheave is also not suitable for my thrust engine despite efforts to communicate with UH. I have a 1" diam straight shaft with six splines and they sent me a tapered shaft sheave. DUH. So I will need to get that machined to fit new bushings. I have orderd 10 yards of black skirt material and glue from Mauritzon. 3939 West Belden Avenue, Chicago, IL. 60647. Tel: (773) 235-6000 |
