Sunday 16th April, 2000 - Palm Sunday
All the foam has dried so we flipped the boat over to clean up the underside and start sealing the seams. We peeled away the cardboard and duct tape. Sanding with the belt sander and a little by hand gave a smooth surface just right for fiberglassing. The underside has really started to take shape now and its very encouraging.

Today I finished rounding off the edges on one side and giving it a good coating with epoxy. I spread a little over the foam too to see what effect it will have.
Tuesday 18th April, 2000
Today was "first attempt with fiberglass cloth day". I laid on a strip of cloth, dribbled on some epoxy, spread it till it had wetted out the cloth and then squeegeed out the excess.

Success! It stuck wonderfully well to the hull, real smooth and hugged the curve of the edge just fine. Tonight I spread more epoxy onto the strip to fill the weave. Looks fine so far. Coated more of the hull in epoxy too. Looks like I got a week or two of just fiberglassing ahead...
Thursday 20th April, 2000
After the discovery that fiberglassing really isn't too much of a hassle, we've started to cover the seams. Three more have been covered now and tis looking good.
Weekend of 22nd, 23rd April, 2000
Happy Easter! More fiberglassing, and yet more. Will this ever end??

More Fiberglassing
Tuesday 25th April, 2000
Bought a can of Interlux white primer to test. This stuff is suuposed to stick really well to epoxy coated wood and make a good base for Interlux Polyurethane topcoats. Expensive, but it should do the job properly. Painted a small scrap piece. And more fiberglassing...
Wed, Thur and Friday
More fiberglassing, a little at a time... |
