The Russo-Japanese War is a war that started  1904 and lasted to 1905 .The combatants were Japan and Russia and was located around Asia. The cause of the war was for Asian colonies (especially Manchuria). Russia had 500,000 soldiers and Japan had 400,000 soldiers.

Russia (European powers)  was in charge of Port Arthur and Japan wanted to use Korea-port Arthur area for Trade. Which eventually led to  a surprise attack on a Russian fleet which started the battle of Port Arthur ,  It was later won by Japan by general Togo and general Dewa.

After the battle of port Arthur the were several other battles, one of the final battles was “The Battle of Tsushima” witch ended the war with an offer of peace from the US (offered by Theodore Roosevelt who had won a noble Peace prize for his effort). witch made it so that as long as Japan stood out of the way of the US interests with Japan, Russia and Japan would back off of Manchuria (port Arthur)

And Japan would gain  the south half of Sakhalin (although it was a huge gain its wasn't as much as Japan was expecting by the war).
