Pictures of Muslims wearing Islamic dress
(from “Our Religion is Islam” by Labiba Hassan & Tasneema Ghazi) |
INTRODUCTION
How people dress plays an important role in
Islam. Muslims are asked to be modest
and clean. This doesn’t mean that they
shouldn’t wear new and nice clothes, but that they shouldn’t show off infront
of other people. Showing off might make
some people angry, or it might hurt someone’s feelings if he/she is poorer than
you. Muslims, whether they are men or
women, follow specific guidelines as to how they should dress in public. Ladies are asked to wear clothes that cover
their whole bodies except their face and hands.
Men are asked to wear clothes that cover at least from their
tummy to their knees. This means that
for example, ladies can’t wear short-sleeved shirts in public, and men can’t
wear shorts in public. Muslims from
different countries wear different types of clothes, but all are still
considered Islamic clothing, since they follow the guidelines.
