INTRODUCTION

SIYAM (Fasting) is an Islamic activity which is devoted to God alone.

From dawn to sunset every day for thirty consecutive days (the whole

month of Ramadhan, the 9th month in the Muslim calendar) a Muslim

volutarily gives up eating, drinking and sex and undergoes a deliberate

training programme of self-discipline and moral upgrading-all for the

one single aim of invoking the pleasure and the grace of God.

Improvement in the state of society as a whole. There is a night of

special significance in Ramadhan known as LAYLAT UL QADR (Night of

power). It occurs in one of the odd numbered nights of the last ten days

of the month of Ramadhan. The Quran mentions it as a night "better than

        thousand months".

EID UL FITR is observed at the end of the month of Ramadan. On this day

after the month of fasting, Muslims express their joy and happiness by

offering congregational prayer preferably in an open field. they express

their gratitude to Allah for enabling them to observe fasting which is a

training programme designed to prepare them to live as practising

Muslims. Special dishes are prepared and it is customary to visit

friends and relatives and to give presents to children to make the

occasion lively and a special one for them.

REINFORCING ACTIVITIES

Craft project : Eid lanterns.

CRAFT PROJECT:  EID LANTERNS

Eid lanterns are fun to make, and you can design them any way you like.

Materials needed:    1 piece of construction paper

                                    Scotch tape

                                    Scissors

                                    Markers/crayons/stickers (for decorating the lantern)

                                    String

How to do it:

1.      If you want the lantern plain, then just go to the next step.  Otherwise, decorate one side of the construction paper with designs of your choice.  If you want to put stickers on it, only put them along the shorter ends of the paper.

2.      Fold the construction paper in half.

3.      Cut from the fold to the edges, leaving about one inch from the edges.

4.      Unfold the paper.

5.      Roll the paper along the short edges, and tape the edges together (decorated side out).

Tape a piece of string to it, and hang them from the ceiling of the classroom.
