Also, being careful to try and not ruin anything about the story, the perhaps 'unusual' nature of the character introduced to our bespectacled friend does not, as the character explains, imply anything about said bespectacled character. The ... attributes of the introduced character are more for lack of confusion in conversation, etc, with a rather (I think so, at least) believable reason for their attributes being what they are. xP
