How Do You Mean?
My usually strong opinion on various random matters that I come across as I go about living.
The Torn Shirt
Based On Actual Events
----------------------
I saw a man with a torn shirt.
A big tear on the back
He was standing on the bridge.
The one over the railway track.

Most days I may not have noticed.
This man, his shirt and the tear.
But yesterday I did
I saw that they were there.

This man is poor, is what I thought
And I guess it is indeed true
For such a torn shirt I would not wear
And probably neither would you

If the tear is a bit tiny
We might try repair
But if it really big
Well, that's why shops are there

But this man put on that shirt,
With the huge tear at the back
And came to town with it
He must indeed suffer lack

I felt a bit of sadness
I felt a bit of pity
That the torn shirt is what he had
And we live in the same city

I know you must have heard it
Time and time again
That we should count our blessings
And the things we have gained

It isn't a small thing
That you can have untorn shirts
And that you can go to hospital
Whenever you get hurt

I saw a man with a torn shirt.
A big tear on the back
He was standing on the bridge.
The one over the railway track.

From Eric:
Aside from thanking God
That my shirt isn't torn,
And that I am so blessed
And so forth,
Is there a duty,
That he's worth,
A service, an aid,
And not pity?

Is it compassion's nature,
To inward look,
Instead of others' need,
At our own fortune?
Not to others heed,
But our blessing compare?

And where's our piety,
Our service?
If we but empathise,
in our mind,
Yet let a brother,
Suffer and toil?
Is it God's ordinance
Forevermore?
