This site DOES NOT CONDONE running red lights. However it aims to educate drivers around wellington of the faulty and poorly designed traffic lights that are in DRASTIC NEED of a systems upgrade.
Many of the lights in the city and surrounding suburbs where designed 25 years ago by "Engineers" who left school at the age of 15 (Year 10) without any formal qualificiations other than a basic secondary school education and thus know jackshit about the basics of engineering other than being taught bullshit by the then government sponsored cadet schemes that gave thousands of 15 year old school leavers jobs until the 1980s.
To the Wellington City Council - PUT SOME MUCH NEEDED FUNDS INTO UPGRADING AND MODERNISING YOUR FAULTY TRAFFIC LIGHT SYSTEMS!!! Never is any city in the world are the traffic lights more fucked up than in Wellington!!! You the Wellington City council chose to "Burn up" (scuse the pun) $1 million on fireworks displays every november but neglect this money into fixing your outdated, faulty traffic light systems
THE FOLLOWING SETS OF TRAFFIC LIGHTS ARE TO BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS OR TREATED WITH GREAT CAUTION
CNR HALL ST/RIDDIFORD ST INTERSECTION NEWTOWN: The hall street/riddiford st turn traffic has to wait for eternity but the green light does not stay green long enough often the third car in the queue has to stop on an orange and wait for another eternal wait, traffic turning from Mein St into Riddiford gets more time to go through than hall street. Priority is given to traffic heading down Riddiford St.
CNR HUNTER ST/JERVOID QUAY CBD: Eternal waiting times for cars turning into jervoius quay from hunter street, again the timing devices are faulty and greens change to orange after only 2x cars.
CNR HARRIS ST. JERVOIS QUAY: One of the worst lights in wellington, The same story as with Hunter/Jervois but more caution required as this is right up by the local Pig Farm Police Station, One lousy move and your left $150 outta pocket
THE LAMBTON QUAY-WHITMORE ST INTERSECTION CBD: Added to the wall-of-shame. On a green light This intersection only allows 2x cars through before going orange - then its another eternal wait. The worst of the Worst.
MT. VUICTORIA TUNNEL/RUGBY ST BY BASIN RESERVE: Again only after 3 cars green goes orange meaning another fustrating wait for traffic trapped in the queue, whle the rugby st. lane gets priority over the Mt. Victoria Tunnel/Rugby st lanes.
