Ok, it goes like this....
It all started just before I went to sleep on Sept 10th. I had just re-arranged my bedroom around and about to hit the futon to get some much needed sleep when I spotted it! "It" was this BIG-ASS cockroach, (possibly my friend from a month ago that had the pleasure of visiting and scaring the hell out of me). Anyways, I freaked out (of course! it was huge! - and I am definately not one of those insect loving people - unlike a lot of Japanese kids who keep beetles etc as pets - ewww yuk!) I watched it scamper across my lounge floor and wait slightly wagging its long (they were as long as the roach itself) antennae, before scrambling into my television cabinet... I could actually hear it's feet against the wood! (makes me shiver just thinking of it! - s*** whats that running across the floor - s***, its nothing but a piece of paper that was kicked by a teacher ... talk about paranoid) Anyways back to my story... I went and found a cockroach disk I had in the kitchen (given to me as a deterrent for the last roach I had by my old host mum) and went to bed, thinking it would have a nibble and go die somewhere!
Well.... This is what happened next, I woke up about 12.45am to go and get a drink of water, and spied a black thing on my futon as I got up, thinking it was just a shadow, I was mortified after turning on my light, that it was my new friend! YUKKKK! I couldn't believe that he was actually ON my futon, basically ON TOP of me!!!! ewwwww....
Totally freaking out, I summed up the situation, either I could sleep outside on my balcony.... but probably have more roaches visit me (I'm on the ground floor) or get the courage up to get near it and squish it!
I grabbed a bowl in case I could 'catch'it and then put some paper underneath it and dispose of it outside, OR squish it somehow.... I put my sandals on (no way was I gonna stand on it with my bare feet) and armed myself with my frypan, airfreshner and hairspray!
It sat up on my doors that separate my 2 rooms and wouldnt move so I ventured as close as I could (without freaking myself out too much, and in case it flew towards me - is it true that they can fly???) and anyways, after spraying a huge amount of airfreshener, I guess that the surface became to slippery for it to hold on to and it slipped into the groove of my doors. I slid the door hard, hoping to squish the roach in the process, but when I released the door, out it sprinted (man those creatures can run!) through my bedroom into my lounge and back into my kitchen!
I didnt have much time to think, so I slammed the frypan down on it as soon as I could! I wasn't sure if it would die or not, so I stood on the pan for a few minutes to make sure it was well and truly squished (now, I understand that it can still lay eggs once squished, so where do the eggs hatch from? Inside the body or in the carpet where I squished it?? )
Still shaking I went to bed and had nightmares all night! Got the guts to finally check if the frypan had worked at getting rid of the roach just before leaving home for school this morning! (I had a bad feeling it had crawled out and was lurking somewhere ready to pounce on me or crawl back into my futon!) But luckily it was squashed flat and I flicked it outside with my trusty umbrella! |
