OVERCLOCKING CONSEQUENCES
MY LITTLE DISCLAIMER
In case you're wondering about my responsibilities in regard to helping you overclock your system. I have NONE whatsoever. All care but NO responsibility so you must foot the bill if you break your friends system so it don't go no more.
What I have collated and put together is simply a reference for the basics on what it is and how to overclock.
For all my good intentions I have, there will be someone out there who would like to put blame onto somebody else. I am not your guy. Besides, my ISP would have to take the blame, becos of their really wierd T&C which states that anything I upload is their property and not my own... really... tut tut tut ... :)
Alrighty then. Overclocking.
Overclocking is STRESSING system components. Oftentimes you will force a system component and cause it to stop responding and possibly 'hang' the computer. If you lose data because of this, or get cut off during an important VoIP call, it means you have taken the overclocking too far or that there is perhaps some instability in one of the following:
RAM Modules
CPU
Motherboard
Video Card
Hard Disk Drive
File System on the HDD
Operating System on the HDD
Files/folders on the HDD
Well, if you've made everything stable again at stock clock settings and voltages and the same instabilities occur ... you may have actually BROKEN SOMETHING!! Or {more likely} it could be one of a HUNDRED THINGS you changed in an effort to reach where you are now with your overclock. Good luck to you for you are doing what a vast growing number of people are aspiring to do...OVERCLOCK!!!
Now have you also tried the following (more difficult) tasks...
clearing CMOS
reseating RAM/CPU/AGP cards/sockets could help.
checking your PSU is greater than 250 watts (Preferably 300W or more).
removing any registry tweaks/hacks/mods
reflashing mobo bios/agp card bios etc
reformatting hdd and reinstalling OS
triple checking all jumpers and motherboard settings
And if none of those work... well... try replacing parts with known good and working parts to see if problems disappear!!
have fun! :)
