Why we are here
The crosses represent those good folks no longer with us due to dispassionate officials failing to recognize the medicinal validity of cannabis.
The nz mcc was formed in August 2000 in response to its founding members personal experience of friends and families self medication with cannabis, for various illness's.
We realised that there is an inequity in the current situation in that according to the NZ misuse of drugs act 1975 that it isn’t illegal to posses cannabis for medical use, one simply require a to date not forthcomming dispensation from the Minister of Health and in fact it contravenes the UN humans rights act by denying effective medical aid to sick people.
So we have formed the NZMCC to press for patients rights under existing legislation and to provide information to help change laws on supply of cannabis for medicinal use.
By no means least to provide a focal point between those out there self-medicating and those empowered to help them and further as a connection between citizens whom share the same views yet feel powerless to initiate change. Finally as a means of connecting people of like mind on this issue, providing a feeling of togetherness. We know the world isn’t perfect, that there are many pluses to modern life. By the mere fact we are human denotes that our society will be less than perfect. This doesn’t mean in our view that we should simply rejoice in the good things and ignore the bad. Our society stumbles often when “good folks do nothing.” It is hoped that the NZMCC will be a catalyst, joining its members through compassion, common decency and logic.
Its an indisputable fact that the earth is not flat, that gravity is not magic, the moon is not green cheese and that cannabis has well documented medicinal uses.
It seems the modern world requires everything that works medicinally to taste yuk, come in a bottle or pill costing mega bucks and have a zillion dire warnings printed on it.
It seems bizarre that the human race can visit its satellite yet fail to use logic if compassion isn’t an option and simply leave the plant world and common sense to the people. Perhaps the ideology has no place in current political thinking. Imagine the horror of folks simply going into their garden and picking their medicine fresh and free. No doubt society would be bought to its knees should the peasants get anything free.
*steps gingerly offa soap box.*
We thought it could serve as a common bond club that could be fun as well as lobbying government to effect decent changes.
Most people when cornered have real decency in them, its hard to imagine a society that sick it denied medicinal relief to its citizens; clearly New Zealand is not such a country so its easy ……smiles! ……. All we have to do is get enough of like minded people together (critical mass) with a common focus, educate our fellow citizens and we have unshakeable confidence that medicinal cannabis will be readily available to those who need it as in the recent past. < < < 1930’s in NZ.
