Background
Corporate raider Bruce Hancox, the gung-ho chief executive of Brierley
Investments from 1984-86 and its chairman from 1990-92, has been      
steadily acquiring businesses from his Nelson base since quitting the 
BIL board in 1996. His interests include FM radio, a timber company   
and a printing works.                                                 

In 1999 he joined another ex-Brierley Investments chief executive,    
Paul Collins, and a former BIL director, lawyer Patsy Reddy, in a
