Background
Barrie's 35 years of business experience in the fire and
general insurance industry included positions as        
Wellington Manager of AIU and Christchurch Manager of   
Cornhill Insurance until he established a fire & general
insurance broking company which grew to become Avon     
Insurance Brokers Ltd. On the sale of that business he  
became joint owner of Century and Merivale Supervalue   
supermarkets in Christchurch. During the six years that 
he operated Merivale Supervalue supermarket it became   
one of New Zealand's most successful supermarkets for   
wine sales. Barrie retains part ownership of the Century
Supervalue supermarket and operates a private property  
and investment company.
