Incorporated: 1908

The Loan and Building Society lends throughout the South Island and is based in Ashburton.   
Its funding is from retail deposits throughout the Canterbury area. The Society lends on     
first mortgage security on farms, commercial property and residential dwellings. The Society 
was established in 1909 and been lending in the Canterbury area since this date.             

The Society is a progressive building society which has doubled its total tangible assets    
over the last five years and is looking to increase its business in its traditional areas    
over the next five years.                                                                    

The Society offers attractive deposit rates along with very competitive mortgage packages in 
the mortgage market. With the Society's mortgage package it can also offer seasonal finance  
through its cheque account facility, with very attractive packages.                          

Loan and Building Society was incorporated under the Building Societies Act 1908 on the 1st  
February 1909 the Society was established.                                                   

The Public file relating to the Loan and Building Society (Registered No 1909/1) is available
for inspection during office hours at the District Registrar of Companies, Cnr Oxford Terrace
and Gloucester, Christchurch.                                                                

The rules of the Society may be inspected at the office of the Society.                      

On 27 October 1999, the members of the Society approved the demutualisation of the Society.  
During November and December 1999 1.5 million ordinary shares were issued at a price of $1.00
per share.                                                                                   

New Zealand Stock Exchange lising will not be sought.
