Friday, around midday, a call from my sister, Ernestine, in West Palm Beach, FL, alerted me (and everyone at my office) that Katrina was heading to New Orleans.  [Just another fire drill, right?]  Why bother leaving?  “RIDE IT OUT”

Saturday morning was perfect tennis weather & I had a good workout while my colleagues and many others were leaving the city for higher ground.  My only concessions were to have a full tank of gas (huh?) and food supplies in preparation for no utilities.

Stanley worked at the hotel boarding it up & declined a place to relocate to.  We removed all items from outside the house & talked with neighbors (both those who were leaving & those staying).

The weather was not too bad, so we had a comfort zone in going to bed & basically sleeping during the storm.  The electricity went out during the night, but we were prepared with hurricane lamps throughout the house and flashlights.

Monday morning, the worst of Katrina has passed by New Orleans.  Not too bad.  I’m on the cell phone with family & friends letting everyone know that we’re

okay.  While talking with Ramona, through the patio door, I notice a bird on the door step.  We laugh about the bird being an angel sent to me & my desire for it to turn into an angel before I open the door and let it into the house.  Shortly thereafter, while talking with Myra & still watching the bird, I notice that the WATER IS RISING, seeping through the foundation of the house.

8:15 am -  PANIC…...PANIC…..in a matter of minutes the water rises to over 6 feet.  We’re actually looking at it through the bedroom window—SCARY, REAL  SCARY…. .Suddenly, the water crashes through the storm door & steel door into the house. ..BYE, MYRA…...Over 3 feet of water racing through every corner of the house - furniture and appliances rising & tumbling over. [MUCH TOO MUCH TO ITEMIZE]

Stanley & I rush into the attic as the water continues to rise….eventually (less than 12 inches from the ceiling) the water stops rising.  Our prayers have been answered.  Eventually the water recedes and levels off at 4 feet.

MIDDAY on Monday, August 29, 2005—LIFE AS I’VE KNOWN IT IS GONE….GONE….

LIFE IS GOOD

FAMILY, FRIENDS & CARING HEARTS…..I am soo thankful for each and everyone who took the time to care.  This is just to let everyone know that life is good & I am well.  If I have neglected to let you know how much your support means to me, I APOLOGIZE.  I can’t begin to describe the warmth and strength I feel, knowing that there are folks who actually care about me.

This newsletter is to give you my first- hand experience with Katrina & the flooding of New Orleans and provide you with an update on a SURVIVOR.  I will continue the saga in future issues of this newsletter.  It’s therapeutic for me.

This “Life is Good” section is intended to share the GOOD that is going on in my life.

Please feel free to visit my web page if you have an interest in looking, or smelling good…..

ONCE AGAIN...MY SINCERE THANKS TO EACH OF YOU FOR CARING ABOUT ME…
