Front runners dominated every contest in the Napier Harrier's open handicap races staged along the southern Marine Parade Pathway.
The senior men's Laurence Cup, fiercely contested since 1937, was won by Chris Wong. The 43 year old Napier dentist overhauled a struggling pacesetter, Arthur Corbett, 400 metres from the finish and powered away to win by 42 seconds. Eric Phimister (36.50) produced a sensational effort to claim third place, while Craig Mathers (35.56)was the fastest over the 10km distance.
Lead off runner Ann-Marie Earwicker won the Alan Angus Cup, by giving the opposition no chance and winning the 5km contest by a ridiculous 3.49 margin. Gina Finlayson and Shayna Heywood came through strongly to claim the minor placings, while Ashley Aitken (20.04) was the quickest.
Ryan Woolley (16.09) ran impressively to claim the Margaret Evans Shield from Ryan Smith, who was having his first outing in club colours.
Larissa Street won the Gavin McGregor Memorial Trophy comfortably by 51 seconds from Danielle Kiely and Anieke Engels. Laura Nagel (20.04) recorded the fastest time.
Patrick McGirr won the Brian Smith Cup, by holding off Ben Fulton by seven seconds, while Jack Needes was another 58 secs back. Fastest time went to Eric Speakman (17.08).
In the 2km mixed 12 years race, two visiting runners Henare Harvey-Brewster and Jasmine Ngan-Sue were first and second across the line, so therefore the third finisher, Natasha Town-Warner claimed the honours after catching 8 year old Georgia Creagh 50 metres before the finish line. Fastest time went to Holly Edmonds (7.42) who seems to be getting better with every race recently.
