Triple Peaks
March 22, 2003
Triple Peaks was run in the reverse direction this year. An excellent contest in the solo men saw Hamish Goodwin run down Darryl Strachan in the final few kilometres to win by 2 minutes, with both runners going under 4 hrs, 3:55 and 3:57 respectively. Third place went to Gisbornes Graeme Lear another 35 minutes back.
NHC successfully defended the teams title with Leo Pearce, Craig Mathers and (that awesome athlete) Mark Speakman making up the successful team. Their winning time was 3:40:47 the second team was 28 minutes behind with third team another further back. Fourth team consisted of Eric Speakman, who ran up Te Mata Peak, Shayna Heywood, who ran down Te Mata Peak (Both Juniors) Josh Barber and Steve Dent. Their time was 4:24 - 2 minutes ahead of the Mark Lane's Team.
A Hastings Harriers team of Andrea Williams, Deirdre Nieuwland and Karen Solari crossed the line next to win the womens team race.
Gisborne Harrier Christine Carlton won the solo women's race in 4:48
Others you may know who were also there were Geoff Martin (5:42) and Glen Yule (6:13) both backing up from Ironman NZ. Mike Signal (4:54) Shane McCormack (5:02) Neil Sargison (5:32) and Iain Murray (5:57) Jyri Manninen (6:11) Shaun Field (6:57).
You probably know a few of the guys and gals that were in teams but the results dont give all the team members names, which makes it bit hard to pick them out!
Great day for it with beautiful clear skies affording great views of the surrounding countryside - if you took the time to look you weren't running hard enough!
