Moa to Olymbus: 70 Years of New Zealand-Built Bus Chassis

This book describes an interesting aspect of New Zealand’s industrial history that has never previously been written. Over 170 photographs are included, plus also a variety of line drawings and reproductions of advertising material. Although vastly outnumbered by their imported equivalents, between 1934 and 2003, approximately 250 fully NZ-built and 450 partly NZ-built bus chassis have been delivered. The story of every NZ-built bus chassis maker is told:- PTC Moa, Kea, Mount Cook-Denning, Wade, Norcoach, NDNZ and Designline Olymbus. Also included is the interesting story of the numerous partly NZ-built MAN chassis manufactured by Designline and Fairfax.

“... fills a gap in New Zealand transport history and serves as a reminder that, given a chance, New Zealanders can achieve a high level of self-sufficiency in engineering.” [Rails]

“Sean Millar has attempted something that has never been done before and has succeeded, the result being a valuable research tool which, unexpectedly for a work of this type, is also very readable.” [New Zealand Railway Observer]

ISBN 0-908726-25-2. 106 pages A4 format. $35.00

Supplements to the New Zealand Railway, Tramway & Bus Bibliography Supplements Nos 1 & 2

Supplement No. 1 updates the main Bibliography to 2003. Supplement No. 2 comprehensively indexes both the main Bibliography, and Supplement No 1. Although the main Bibliography includes indexing, this is improved upon greatly. The decision to publish Supplement No. 2 separately was made to further enhance ease-of-use, as it is much more convenient to find multiple references if the index is able to be left open.

“Sean is to be congratulated on his enthusiasm for producing these supplements, and for those who have the main Bibliography, these two books are essential additions” [New Zealand Railway Observer]

Supplement No. 1: New & Amended Listings. 16 pages. Supplement No. 2: Index by Geographic Area and Topic. 32 Pages. A4 format. ISBNs 0-908726-32-5 & 0-908726-33-3. Combined price for both volumes:- $10.00.
