San Antonio

This city of one and a bit million is located just over an hour South West of Austin. I have been there many times, usually to change a rental car, or catch a plane - but on other occasions I have played the role of tourist. These shots are from October when I took my parents for their compulsory tourist visit.

This is the Alamo. Source of much historical controversy. It has been through the hands of many countries...but now lies well within Texas. There is a famous cry of "Remember the Alamo", believe me - it is pretty damn hard to forget it with the amount of times you hear people go on about it.

This is one of the Alamo walls where hundreds died trying to defend their position. The Texans, including David Crockett and Jim Bowie, got got dealt to in this battle - but they apparently dished out enough whoop ass to leave the army of Santa Ana very weak and they were destroyed in the next battle which earned Texas their freedom. If Mel Gibson has heard this story, it can only be a matter of time.

Here is my mother and I reading about the history of the Alamo. I think I gained plenty from th IMAX movie starring Patrick Swayze's brother, but I am always keen to learn more.

This is a big, old looking building - wow.

This is my mum who made friends with Moesha and Jamal.....know what I'm sayin girlfriend??

Alamo Fish and a scoop....

Dad eating some pizza at the riverwalk....

Dad and I involved in intellectual conversation regarding post river-walk architecture. Or was that Northland being better than Waikato and Otago??

Don't push me cos I'm close to the edge.....

Token Hooters Shot. I think the lady in blue is checking out the Hooters Girl's booty.
