Viewpoint: NZ soccer is of a high level, well organised and is lucky not to have the 'thug' element which is more frequently found in English soccer. The standard of the pitches is excellent, especially compared to the 'quagmires' of the British Isles! NZ soccer would benefit from greater TV coverage of the European game and a successful national team World Cup run. Interestingly, many NZ parents would prefer their children to play soccer rather than rugby. To encourage more youth participation you need role models.
