A Story of Squirrels
by me
There once was a forest, this forest contained
Some gray squirrels, some brown squirrels
But squirrels just the same
The squirrels lived in peace
For year after year
Until something happened
It could make you shed tears
The brown squirrels decided that they were the best
Those gray squirrels, they said, Are just such a pest!
And so it became that the brown squirrels were great
And the gray squirrels were the ones you were told to hate
Those poor little squirrels, their fur colored gray
Were made to work as slaves
Every day after day
But the gray squirrels did not like this
Oh, did they get mad
They knew this squirrel slavery
Was downright plain bad
It was this that would start
The great Squirrel Civil War
It was Brown against Gray
And rich against poor
The fighting went on
But no good came of it
Brown still hated Gray
It was not a great hit
Until one day when a visitor came
This squirrel was not brown
Nor had he a gray mane
For this squirrel was special
He was colored pure red
He was colored this color
From his tail to his head
He said, Look at you, you are all such big fools!
All this arguing and fighting,
Are these really lifes tools?
It doesnt matter whether youre brown or gray
What matters is whats inside
Listen to me, as I speak on this day
Remember your past, please try
Remember when all squirrels lived together
In peace and harmony
When you could go play outside
With out being afraid to climb a tree
And sure enough, one brown squirrel
Was brave enough to say,
The red squirrel is right- why are we fighting?
We could be playing on this beautiful day!
And from then on, there was no more fighting
No arguments of whos right and wrong
And over time the squirrels even forgot
To which color they really belonged
