BIRD
by me

This is a story of many a bird
A story that most people have never heard
So listen while I tell this story to you
And maybe you will learn a lesson quite new

It starts with a forest, it starts with some birds
What takes place in this forest will be said in these words
The birds were blue, as blue as the skies
They were bluer than you've ever seen with your eyes

The birds' favorite food was sunflower seeds
But to one bird this food was not to its needs
For he enjoyed berries, and every single day
When the other birds ate seeds he went his own way

The bird was afraid to say what he liked
So he kept his own secret during both day and night
He was nervous the other birds might think it strange
To like berries, not seeds; they might tell him to change

But one day while eating, a bird said to his friend
"One of us is missing, he went 'round that bend"
They looked past the corner, and to their surprise
They saw that berry-eating bird, right before their own eyes

His face was stained purple, his eyes were stained red
The other birds wondered if it was tears he had shed
He said through a sob, "I did not want to say,"
"That I liked berries, not seeds, but you've found out today"

And to his disbelief, the other birds said,
"We didn't mean to cause you so much dread!
For you have just done us a very nice deed,
You've made us believe berries are better than seeds!"

"We didn't know how good berries tasted,
We thought eating berries was just time being wasted!
But now you've shown us how good berries are,
And now from our group you shall not travel far!"

To this day the birds still get along
They decided they like rights much better than wrongs
If one bird likes something he thinks the other birds don't
Keeping his secret he certainly won't!
