Garinim
What is a Garin?

Russian Zionism created one of the most interesting ways to keep the days between deciding to make aliyah actually making aliyah productive and interesting. Zionist groups formed dedicaded to discussion and skills building. They learned Hebrew, agriculture, politics, self-defense, and discussed the process and problems of aliyah. Eventually these garinim (seeds) would make aliyah together, usually to a kibbutz or moshav. The journey of the individual became intertwinned with that of the garin.

Garinim at N.Y.U.?

At N.Y.U. this beautiful tradition has been revived. While these groups will not make aliyah together, they will become a support system and place of learning for each other. By having a place through which information and skills building workshops can be funneled, the N.Y.U.b'Aliyah garinim will be able to gain the skills and knowledge inherint withn a succesful aliyah. Come and find out more information, or join a garin.
