| Thommy D. - The Original ROADDOG | |||||||||||||||||||
| 37+ years in the music biz, 25 of them spent, pretty much, on the road, qualifies the ROADDOG. Member of BMI and The Guild Of American Luthiers (GAL); former member of the IBEW (Locals 3 & 483) and AF of M,(Locals 47,117,& 802). Skilled (and schooled) in the art of stringed instrument building, and certified repair tech for Fender and Gibson Guitars...Currently enjoying semi-retirement..... ...youcan't fully retire from something that is your life! The RoadDog's roadwork has taken him through most of the U.S.A. and Canada, the Yukon Territory and Alaska, too! Some stops in Guam and Wake Islands, thanks to 2 U.S.O. Show tours. Spent some time in SouthEast Asia and Japan, compliments of the U.S. Army. Came to Florida from New York via Seattle, in the late 80's and remained stationary, (relatively speaking), for almost 10 years before joining up with Keith Caton, Skip Olenick, and former playing partner, Chris Chilton, in the formulation of THE ACCELERATORS (WWW.ACCELERATORS.ORG), a Blues band with a mission to take the traditions of the original masters through the 90's and into the 21st Century. Just recently, yet another gig has whetted the ravenous music appetite of the RoadDog and, so, playing with 2 bands is now the domination of time. The "other" group is THE NO LIMIT BAND, and RoadDog finds himself reunited with his OTHER favorite drummer, Norb Bush, and Sammy J. in a classic-to-current Rock/Dance endeavor. Needless to say (but I'm gonna anyway), the logistics of scheduling has become a fine art. The journey started out in a galaxy, far, far, away, with an accordion (no laughing, PLEASE!), but quickly changed to guitar (thanks to Uncle Tom). By 10 or 11, the bass guitar came into play (no pun) and 5 years later was the first professional paying gig in a local nightclub (thanks to some 'older' players who needed a bassist at the last minute). Working the clubs in and around the New York metropolitan area afforded the ability to meet and play along with some of the heavies of the time. Over the years the stage has been shared with Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Bobby Lewis ("Tossin' & Turnin'"), The Drifters (with Chris Chilton), The Platters, The Ink Spots, Santana (@ the King Dome on Cinco de Mayo, the RoadDog's birthday), Buddy Guy, R.B. Greaves ("Take A Letter, Maria"), The Great Pretenders, Pinetop Perkins, R.L. Burnside, Rick Derringer, Vinnie Martell (Vanilla Fudge), and a young & yet-to-be discovered Robert Cray. Also Production Manager, at certain venues, for The Atlanta Rhythm Section, Molly Hatchet, T.J. Shepard, Kitty Wells, Cissy Lynn (Loretta's talented daughter), Rick Roberts (FireFall), Spirit, and The ChippenDale Revue. Thanks for visiting this site. RoadDog will be adding to it, from time to time, with pic- tures and such, as schedules allow. E-Mails are welcomed, relating to Music, Stringed Instrument repair, Producing, and/or Publishing. Valiant efforts will be made to answer ALL mail, but re- member, patience is a virtue and the ROADDOG is still doing roadwork. [email protected] |
