NYPD Blue Fanfiction

Maggie's Fanfic

Detective Greg Medavoy

Part 3

It's early morning on the streets of lower Manhattan.  There has been a murder-suicide in a two-star hotel and Sipowicz and Clark have been sent out to investigate it.  In a matter of minutes, Baldwin Jones enters the hotel too.  Andy looks up and then looks at Junior.
Junior says to Baldwin, "Greg is taking lost time again"?
Baldwin nods.  "Rehearsing with the band".
Andy says to Baldwin, "What's the name of Greg's band again"?
Baldwin is looking under the sheet of the DOA and says, "They call themselves The Blue Dobermans.  They are rehearsing a lot because they will be on with Letterman on Friday night and on Saturday Night Live this weekend.  The boss is on the phone trying to get us tickets to Saturday Night Live."
MPG ponders this a moment and then says to Baldwin, "Do you know who is hosting Saturday Night Live"?
Baldwin nods.  "Vin Diesel".

Greg and his band are standing with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra.  Greg and his bandmates wear long sleeve light blue shirts and chino slacks.  Along side Greg is a bald-headed man who looks more like a wrestler than a jazz man.  His name is Pete and he plays the sax.  Beside him is a tall, dark-haired man in his late forties that wears his brown hair with streaks of white in it to his waist.  His name is Dougie and he plays folk guitar.  Behind Greg is an older man with white hair who has a cello.  His name is Bob.  John Clark Senior was in the band as well, playing banjo.  Greg hopes that they can find another banjo player for their group.  His misses Dutch Boy very much.

Paul Shaffer and David Letterman have gone out of their way to make Greg and the band feel welcome.  They gave the band members tickets.  Greg was able to get James Martinez and Gina to come and watch him play and Captain Fancy is there as well.  Greg feel euphoric.

The band plays When The Saints Go Marching In before the show begins.  The play along with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra to Duran Duran's Rio.  Then later during a commercial break, they play On The Good Ship Lollipop.  When David Letterman introduces the band to play for the audience without backup, Greg and the band play Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and then later You're The Top.
At the end of the program, they Play You Are My Sunshine.  Greg is delighted to meet Sean Connery and Lewis Black.  Afterwards, James, Gina, and Greg go out for sandwiches and beer.

The following night, Eddie Gibson, Diane Russell,  Valerie, Rita, Tony Rodriguez, Martens,  and Baldwin Jones are in the audience.  Katie Medavoy has sent a basket of fruit to her dad because her due date is any day now and she and her husband need to stay near the hospital.

Vin Diesel flirts with the ladies and after the show,  and later they go to a nightclub that Vin Diesel invites the cast, band and friends along to.  Vin Diesel takes his turn dancing with Diane, Valerie and is especially is fond of Rita.  They leave the club together.  Greg dances with Diane and later Valerie and sees Vin Diesel loading Rita into a long stretch limo and then folds his long body into the limo as well.  Tony and Martens bow out early but not before congratulating the band.  Greg looks so happy.  Baldwin and Valerie leave later together as lovers do wrapped up tightly to each other.  Eddie and Greg sit with the rest of the Blue Dobermans and order up enough food to cover two tables.  Eddie and Greg are talking about Dutch Boy and Eddie later talks about his harmonica playing.    Greg extends an invitation to play with the band one night and see how it goes.  They've got a gig coming up in a couple weeks to play on Conan O'Brien's show so they need a lot of rehearsal for that.
