NYPD Blue Fanfiction
Maggie's Fanfic
Aftermath
It was still daylight as
Greg maneuvered the car towards the Beth Israel hospital complex. Clark
was sitting up front with Greg, and right behind him was Andy who still had
Connie wrapped tightly in his arms. Clark looks back for a moment and
Connie was motionless, with her eyes closed, Andy stroking her pretty blonde
hair. There were dark circles under Connie's eyes.
Officer Miller opened the
rear car door as they entered the outdoor entrance to the Emergency Room. Andy
was able to guide Connie into the seat of the wheelchair without resistance.
Greg stayed in the car moving it away from the emergency entrance. Once
inside the emergency room, Connie was rushed out of sight with Andy looking
for the men's room. Clark was looking at the vending
machines and before long, he and Greg had bought 20 oz bottles of assorted
flavors of pop, chips, cookies, muffins and candy bars. Greg found an
alcove to crash in and they put the snacks on the table. Before long,
Andy who is sweating profusely, is escorted to a back room where Connie is.
In a while, Valerie shows up, then Diane Russell, and Rita. Everyone is
very quiet, drinking their drinks, eating from the bags of chips, Doritos,
fritos, cupcakes, muffins. It's been a long day and everyone is tired.
The television is tuned to MSNBC, and there is endless coverage.
Connie is laying on the
table with her legs in the stirrups as the doctor examines the baby. He
nods to Andy and says that everything is fine. They are going to hold
off on the ultrasound until next week. The doctor wants Connie to stay
over night for observation since her blood pressure was elevated when she came
in. Connie refuses insisting on going home to her family.
John Irvin has called Andrea
and he and Andrea have the saved the day for the children. Andrea made
sure that Michelle was fed her dinner, bathed and in her pajamas before John
picks her up. John picks up Theo at his music lessons, saving
Andrea a trip, and they go to the store. John and Theo pick up things to
make for dinner and by the time, Connie and Andy make it home to their
apartment, dinner is ready. Andy sees that John has made pork chops,
mashed potatoes, a nice dinner salad, rolls, and there is a store bought cake.
Michelle is sound asleep in her crib, sucking her thumb, embracing a Raggedy
Ann. John kisses Connie goodbye and leaves hastily.
Theo is aware o fwhat has
happened because when he arrived for his music lesson, his teacher, Mr. Stone
had his television set on. Theo is caught by Mr. Stone watching
the tv set and Mr. Stone gives Theo a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
Mr. Stone tells Theo that Connie and Andy are fine and Andy will be taking
Connie back to the apartment shortly. They begin the piano lesson.
When the lesson is over, Mr. Stone gives Theo his lesson for the next
week, helps him with his coat, bookbag and takes him downstairs on the
elevator where John Irvin is just coming in the front door of the buiding.
Theo asks Connie what is the matter, wanting to know if she is okay, and
Connie doesn't miss a beat. She claims she's tired which is the truth
and then Andy suggests that Theo get settled in for the night.
Theo is long asleep when
Andy goes to check on him. Andy takes the book Charlotte's Web from
where it has fallen on the floor and lays it on top of Theo's bookbag.
Andy ads a blanet that is folded on the rocker to Theo's bed since the wind is
howling outside the window. Andy walks to the window and looks down at
the snow covered street.
Andy goes to check on
Michelle who has rolled over on her back and is once again sucking
her thumb. Andy checks the radiator to make sure that plenty of heat is
coming from it and restarts the Mozart For Babies cd.
Connie is sound asleep in
the recliner. Andy covers her with an afghan that John Irvin crocheted
for them when they married. Andy decides to turn the phones off for the
night. Andy goes and takes a shower and decides to shave. His
heart is still racing. Connie, and the children are the only thing that
are keep him dry tonight.
There is a yell from the
front room and Andy goes running into the living room, in boxer shorts,
dripping shaving cream everywhere. It's Connie, awakened from a bad
dream now coming to terms with the fact that she is safe in her own home.
Andy embraces her, not remembering his shaving cream, kissing her softly on
her tear-streaked face, offering her water, and he helps her to bed. He
goes back to the bathroom to finish shaving and comes to lay with her.
He holds her tightly all night.
It's Saturday morning and
John Irvin comes by early to take Theo to the Brooklyn Zoo. He drops off
a tray of lasagna, and some fresh fruit. He departs with Theo as quickly
as he did the night before. Clark and Rita come with groceries later in
the morning. Rita busies herself putting the coffee filters, the new can
of Folgers, the deli turkey breast, deli ham, baby swiss, bagels, navel
oranges, and cookies away. John has brought twelve long-stemmed flowers
from everyone in a long white box for Connie. Rita goes in where Connie
is just waking and sits on the bed. Rita takes Connie a toasted bagel
with some peanut butter spread on, an orange sliced up, and coffee into
Connie. Connie is grateful for the food. Clark and Andy
have Michelle sitting in the high chair and Clark is feeding her Cheerios.
Andy sits and watches Clark, who obviously loves children, with admiration.
He's glad that Dr. Devlin is out of the picture. Andy hopes that Clark
and Rita will hook up again.
After Michelle is fed, Clark
takes her to the bathroom and starts her a tub. Rita comes out because
she hears water running and soon finds Clark giving the little girl a bath.
The love that rushes into Rita catches her by surprise. Andy who is
sitting on the toilet lid sipping coffee just smiles at Rita. Clark is
busy with the soap crayons and hearing the child's baby laughter as Michelle
suddenly draws on her tummy and then his face, brings Connie from
the bedroom. Connie's color has returned to her face, her eyes have
sparkle to them and she is laughing when she sees Michelle drawing on Clark's
face.
That evening, the apartment
is full of friends. The roses look beautiful. Greg has put records on an
old record player, Diane brings over Trivial Pursuit MASH edition, Valerie and
Henry are there with cartons of chinese food for all and chopsticks which Theo
masters in no time. Clark, Tony Rodriguez, John Irvin and Rita
come by. Valerie rocks Michelle to sleep tonight.
At some point between the
food and the laughter, there is a stirring inside of Connie. The look on
her face scares Andy but he quietly put his arm around Connie. She takes
his arm from around her and puts it on her swollen middle and then Andy feels
it too. Andy beams, looks at Theo who wants to feel too, and says to
everyone with happiness in his voice, "Dumbledore is an athlete".
Everyone bursts into laughter. It's a happy night in the Sipowicz home
once again.
