Panthers Blue Win Panther Qualifier

Staten Island, NY July 10 - 11 2004

 The Panthers Blue topped the N.J. Pride 6-1 thanks to two hits and two RBI each from Jillian Rini, Meghan Conanan and Joanna Tepedino . They also topped New York Total Kaos 8-4 with Destiny Ocasio leading the way with a three-run double. In the third game the Panthers Blue played the Panthers Red to a 3-3 standoff  with strong pitching from Becky Sloan (Red) and Danielle Ponsiglione (Blue).
 On Sunday the New York Panthers Blue beat Total Kaos 7-1 then beat the New Jersey Pride 7-6 in seven innings in the NY Panthers PONY Qualifier to earn an automatic bid to the 14-and-under Nationals. The Panthers were down 6-1 in the seventh, but strung together seven hits, tying it on Meghan Conanan's RBI single. Tamara Doherty drove in Joanna Tepedino with the winning run.

Game 1 
Sayreville Stingrays  7   NY Panthers  2

Despite the offensive efforts of
Kristi Dillon (2 for 3) and Jaclyn Bonacci on base 3 of 4 plate appearances including a double the NY Panthers Red dropped game 1 Becky Sloan had 7 k’s in a losing effort.

Game 2 
NY Panthers Red 3    Howell Heat White 2

With a excellent pitching and defensive effort the NY Panthers won game 2. Sparkling defensive plays were turned in by
Melissa DePalma,
Dayna Ugo (2 hits run scored), Ashley Brandow and Kristi Dillon in support of winning pitcher Samantha Bennett’s (3 for 3 Triple and an RBI) complete game no BB’s.

Game 3
NJ Rocks 9    NY Panthers 4

Although dropping game 3 the Panthers bats showed some life as
Jaclyn Marinello (2 for 3 Triple) and Kerri Monahan    ( 2 for 3 3 RBI’s) supplied the fireworks.

Sunday May 30
Game 4
NY Panthers  11       Howell Heat Blue  0
The 9th seeded Panthers started Sunday off with a mercy rule win.
Jaclyn Bonacci set the table going 1 for 2 with 2 walks, Samantha Bennett went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored and winning pitcher Becky Sloan Drove in 2 runs to help her own cause. Dayna Ugo turned in another great game behind the plate throwing out 5 of 5 base runners attempting to steal.

Game 5

The Panthers returned the favor from Saturday dropping the #1 seeded Stingrays from the tournament.
Jaclyn Bonacci continued her torrid weekend by going 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored. While Kristi Dillon and Ashley Brandow picked up RBI’s in support of Samantha Bennett who went the distance Striking out 10 and walking 0.

Game 6    Semi-final
NY Panthers  4            West Windsor Witches  2
The 4th seeded Witches were next and behind the hitting of
Ashley Brandow 2 for 2  2 RBI’S and Kristi Dillon 2 for 3
( Triple) 2 runs scored the Panthers prevailed.
Cassie Fernandez Worked 3 gutsy innings while Becky Sloan pitched 4 innings of no hit ball in relief  to pick up the win.

Game 7 Final
NY Panthers  4          Jersey Girls Red  0
Winning Pitcher
Samantha Bennett Kept her Shutout streak going. Pitching another 7 innings with out giving up a run or a walk and striking out 4. The Panthers Jumped out early on the 4th seeded Jersey Girls with 2 runs in the first inning. Consecutive hits by Jaclyn Bonacci, Samantha Bennett, Ashley Brandow and Becky Sloan plated the eventual champions first 2 runs. Then added insurance runs in the 3rd and 4th innings on a Kristi Dillon single and two stolen bases and then Jaclyn Bonacci’s booming triple plated Jaclyn Marinello.
Dayna Ugo threw out 8 of 10 would be base stealers while catching all four games. While Pitchers Samantha Bennett, Cassie Fernandez and Becky Sloan pitched a combined 27 innings without giving up an earned run.

Kittatinny Spring Fling May 15 - 16, 2004

Saturday 5/15/04
Game 1:  NY Panthers Red - 10   Ridgewood - 1

Winning Pitcher Becky Sloan Allowed 2 Hits and struck out 16 She also helped herself with two hits. Samantha Bennett Stoked 3 Hits Including a Triple with 4 RBI's  and Melissa DePalma also Knocked in Two runs

Game 2:  NY Panthers Red - 7     Kittatinny - 0

Samantha Bennett Was the winning Pitcher Striking out 12 and allowing only 2 hits on the day. Jaclyn Bonacci had 2 hits in the game.

Game 3:  NY Panthers Red - 15      Sparta White - 5
Cassie Fernandez was the winning pitcher striking out 7 and allowing only 3 hits. Ashley Brandow had 3 hits and 3 RBI's,
Becky Sloan had 2 hits, & Lauren Castellano had the game winning RBI

Sunday 5/15/04
Game 4 :  NY Panthers Red - 9         Mount Olive - 2

Becky Sloan Picked up the win and added a two run double on her own behalf, Kristi Dillon & Ashley Brandow were both 3 for 3 and split 3 RBI's.

Game 5:  NY Panthers Red - 5       West Milford - 4
Samantha Bennett Pitched 6 Innings of 2 hit ball, Becky Sloan relieved in the seventh for the win. Paige Isaacson reached on an error, with two out and down one Samantha Bennett Smacked a double to put runners on 2nd and 3rd then Kristi Dillon laced a two run double that brought home the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the seventh of the semi-final game. Jeana Gambardella made two sparkling defensive plays in the top of the seventh to keep the Panthers in the game.

Game 6:  NY Panthers - 9         Sparta Diamonds Blue - 1

Cassie Fernandez pitched the Panthers to the Kittatinny Spring Fling Championship. Dayna Ugo had a huge game as her battery mate throwing out two would be base stealers and made several great plays from behind the plate. Kristi Dillon added 3 more hits while Becky Sloan, Ashley Brandow & Jaclyn Bonacci all had 2 hits each.
