What is a Pagan
First, lets start with what a Pagan IS NOT......

1)We do not eat babies, or do blood sacrifices.
2)We do not worship the devil.
The Devil is a Christain based diety, and does not exsist in Paganism.
3) We do not fly on brooms or float.
4) We cannot solve all of life's problems with a twitch of our noses.
If we could, I wouldn't be in a wheelchair
5) We don't. wear black all of the time.
6) There is no color in magick, only intent.
7) One cannot be born a witch, any more than being born a Catholic. It is our religion, a way of life.
What IS a Pagan......

The word Pagan comes from the Latin word, "paganus" meaning "country dweller" Pagans hold reverence for the Earth and all of it's creatures. We tend to see everything as interconnected and strive to attune ourselves to the cycles of nature and the universe.
Most Pagans are polytheistic( believing in many God/dess) and they usually believe in immanance,( the concept that divinity resides in all things).
Many Pagans though polytheistic see all things as part of the Great Mystery.
Some consider Paganism to be a Religion unto itself, others see if as a belief system, that can be incorporated into Religions like Wicca, and Druidism: others see it as a broad catagory of religions.
The fact that we are re-creating a religion for ourselves after centeries of suppression makes us very eclectic and very concerned with the "Rightness" of a particular thing for the individual. So when you see some people calling it a religion and others are not, when you see if capitalized in some instances and not in others, don't be confused, we're basically talking about the same thing.
The Charge of the Godess
Listen to the words of the Great Mother, who of old was called Artemis, Astarte, Dione, Aphrodite, Ceridwen, Diana, Arionrhod, Brigid, and by many other names:
"Whenever you have need of anything, once a month, and better it be when the moon is full, you shall assemble in some secret place and adore the spirit of me who is Queen of the Wise. You shall be free from slavery, and as a sign that you be free you shall be naked in your rites. Sing, feast, dance, make music and love all in My presence for Mine is the ecstasy of the spirit and Mine also is the joy on earth. For My law is love unto all beings. Mine is the secret that opens upon the door of youth, and Mine is the cup of wine, of life that is the Cauldron of Ceridwen that is the holy grail of immortality. I give the knowledge of spirit eternal and beyond death I give peace and freedom and reunion with those that have gone before. Nor do I demand aught of sacrifice, for behold, I am the mother of all things and My love is poured upon the earth

Hear the words of the Star Goddess, the dust of whose feet are the hosts of heaven, whose body encircles the universe. " I am the beauty of the green earth and the white moon among the stars and the mysteries of the waters. I call upon your soul to arise and come unto me. For I am the soul of nature that gives life unto the universe. From Me all things proceed and unto Me they must return. Let My worship be in the heart that rejoices, for behold -all acts of love and pleasure are My rituals. Let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion, honor and humility, mirth and reverence within you. And you who seek to know Me, know that your seeking and yearning will avail you not, unless you know the Mystery: for if that which you seek, you find not within yourself, you will never find without. For behold I have been with you from the beginning, and I am that which is attained at the end of desire."
