The Filipino Diocesan Apostolate, have formed The Cultural Ministry. It's goal is "to promote awareness of Filipino culture, moral and family values among our Filipino-Americans."

To reach the goal, a program that embraces a framework of geography, history, customs, traditions, arts and recreation has been prepared.

Furthermore, the program can be enfleshed through basic classroom instructional method, singing, dancing, role-playing, storytelling, ang playing games.

Various committees were formed to implement the program which are as follows:

  • GEOGRAPHY AND HISTORY COMMITTEE
    The commiittee members will teach the:
    • basic information on the composition of the Philippines.
      e.g. islands, regions.
    • important historical events and their impacts or effects in the Filipino lifestyle.

  • CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS COMMITTEE
    The committee members will teach:
    • the origin and relevance of some Filipino customs and tradition to Filipino moral and faith. e.g. : Harana, Piyesta, Pabasa and Ati-atihan

  • FOLK SONGS AND DANCES COMMITTEE
    The committee will teach popular folk songs and dances like:
    • Bahay Kubo, Paru-parong bukid, Ati-ku pung sing-sing, Tinikling, Itik-itik, Maglalatik.

  • GAMES AND RECREATIONS COMMITTEE
    The committee will teach popular games we once enjoyed playing like:
    • Patintero, Sipa, Luksong Tinik, Tumbang Preso at iba pa.

  • ADULTS/PARENTS ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE
    The committee will provide different activities to adults and parents like:
    • Parol Making
    • Saronggola making
    • Cooking
    • Crafts
    • Ballroom Dancing, etc.

This program is designed and offered to any individual especially our Filipino-American youth. It is our hope that after the completion of the program, they will have pride in them of having a beautiful and rich Filipino heritage. It has also been agreed upon by the members of the FDA council to name the cultural program, "Paaralang-Pinoy".

May all the members of each committee have the enthusiasm in implementing the program for the successful learning of the Filipino-Americans.
