��� Prior to his current position, Michael O'Connor, a highly decorated 29 year Transit Police Department veteran, served as Senior Vice President and Chief of Police from March 11, 1992 to January 21, 1995.� During his career he held virtually every major position of responsibility within the ranks of the Transit Police Department.� As Chief he accomplished an unprecedented 50% reduction in crime in New York City's subways.
���� From July 1990 to April 1992, Michael O'Connor served as Chief of the Field Service Bureau, a position that awarded him his third star and gave him overall command and responsibility for the patrol and investigatory functions of the department.� During that time nearly 3,400 of the department's 4,100 police officers reported to him. |

��� Prior to that assignment, from May 1989 through July 1990 he held the title of Chief of Detectives, where he was responsible for the supervision of over 200 Detecives whose primary mission was the administration and investigation of all criminal complaints including moitoring of all homicide and accidental death investigations.
���� As an Inspector from June 1987 through May 1989, he was the Commanding Officer of the Inspectional Services Division which includes the Internal Affairs, Civilian Complaints and Field Internal Affairs Units.� This highly sensitive position carried the responsibility for "policing" the sworn members of the department by conducting investigations into matters concerning corruption, criminality, or integrity related issues concering the members of the force.
���� Michael O'Connor, a Vietnam Veteran, joined the Transit Police Department in 1965 and earned many commendations during his years as a Police Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain.� He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York, and is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy and has completed sepeciallized police training in Executive Strategic Management, Hostage Negotiation, Security and Loss Control, Minority Relations and Terrorist Investigations to name only a few.He also attended the New York Institute of Technology, John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Bernard Baruch College. |
