Brief Bios

 

Starlings Volleyball Clubs, USA is a non-profit organization.  The following coaches and directors are unpaid volunteers who

 devote their time to enrich the lives of the young people they serve...

 

 

Omar Vargas

Founder, Head Coach, and Director

 

 Coach Vargas holds a Master's Degree in Education and has taught for several years in the New York City public school

 system.  He continues to teach English as a Second Language at the high school level.  In addition to teaching, Coach Vargas has

 coached high school and college volleyball for many years and continues to coach at the high school level.  Coach Vargas resigned

 from his college coaching positions to devote more time to his volunteer coaching and directing activities with the New York City

 Starlings Volleyball Club, which he founded in 1996.  An accomplished athlete himself, Coach Vargas is a former professional

 minor league baseball player, played semi-professional basketball in the Dominican Republic, and has played professional beach

 volleyball.  A huge hitter, he continues to pose a threat on any court!

 

 

Felix Alberto

Coach

 

Coach Felix holds a BA in Physical Education with a minor in Secondary Education.  He has taught Physical Education in various

private schools in the New York City area since 1994.  He has also taught Spanish for the past 7 years at the high school level. 

He Coached volleyball since 1992--college volleyball from 1992 to 1996 and again from 2000 to 2002, and high school from

1996 to the present. Felix has coached teams that have won 1 or more championships since 1996, including college, high school,

and club levels.  He is looking forward to increasing his "winning streak" by winning at the Starlings National Tournament in this his

fourth year as part of the NYC Starlings coaching staff!  A ballistic and scrappy player bursting with energy when he steps on the

court, Omar and Kimary are anxiously awaiting his return to the beach volleyball scene--that is, if he can give up his passion for

golf!

 

Nicolas Louis

 Coach

 

Coach "Nico" holds a Master's Degree in Sciences as well Finance from a University in France (he won't tell us which one, but

rumor has it it's one of THE best!). After working for various financial institutions, he is currently employed by a Securities

Exchange company and works on Wall Street. Born and raised in France, he has been playing volleyball for 20 years, including

3 years in a national division. He thrives on competition and still plays at the highest level in and around the NYC volleyball scene.

He has been coaching for 7 years, some of them in France, and is in his 3rd year as a Starlings Coach.  Nicolas is truly a multi-

talent, and we're still trying to find the ONE thing that he cannot do--seriously! True, he's French, but we love him anyway!
