| Midnight Blue in 2002! It doesn't seem that long ago The memories are clear The night the Yankees finally lost November 4th, last year The blooping single to left field That scored the winning run The look on Rivera's solemn face When he knew his season was done And now, four months later The '02 season's on its way With plenty of new players- Giambi, White, and Steve Karsay Yet even with the new guys The team still has its core Jeter, Williams, Pettitte, Rivera Their names in Yankee lore They beat the Braves in '96 And again in '99 They won 125 in 1998 The greatest season of all time Victory again was theirs Less than two years ago As they won the Subway Series Against the New York Mets, you know But since they could not four-peat; Since they lost in 2001 The media was calling it The end of the Yankees' run So during this past offseason A few new players were brought in To prove those doubters wrong once more And show the world they still can win Now in the coming summer I'm sure that we will see An upper-deck home run or two From Jason Giambi But ever more important Will be the coming fall When the Yankees hope to celebrate Again at City Hall So while many people have pronounced, "This Yankees dynasty is done" They fail to realize something- That a new one has begun! |
