HOW TO WRITE A RESPONSE

WHO TO WRITE TO:

It is important that you first choose an advertiser whose ad reflects your   interested and desired. It is unfair to expect an advertiser whose interests differ from yours to take the time to correspond on subjects that  are of no interest to them. For example, if you are a single man interested  in photography and want to find a model, look for ladies' ads that express a desire or willingness to model. Don't write to advertisers who express no willingness along these lines.

BEFORE YOU WRITE:

After you have chosen the advertisers that you feel I have the same interests as your own, spend a few moments thinking about what you really wish to say. Try to pick the main points that the advertiser would be most interested in.

WHAT TO WRITE - Describe yourself:

Give the advertiser a brief description of yourself. Do not give a complete  life story, just the information necessary to briefly sketch yourself. For example, you could write something like the following: "I am a single male, age 31, 6'1", 190 lbs., with black hair and blue eyes, and I am a successful salesman for a company. I live alone and have my own apartment in such and such a place. I love dancing and swimming, am fun loving and good natured."

A sketch like this gives the advertiser a profile of you without wading through pages of life history. Remember, the first letter you write to an advertiser is only an introduction. When meeting any new friends you do not expect him to want to know everything that has happened to you since the day of your birth.

REQUESTING PHOTOS, TELEPHONE NUMBERS, ETC.

It is unfair and unwise to request more than you have given yourself.
Unless you have enclosed a photo of yourself in your letter it is unwise to request that the advertiser send one of themselves in the first letter that they write to you.

STATE YOUR DESIRE:

Again remember that the advertiser is someone whom you are presenting yourself to for the first time. Be polite, sincere, and cordial and mention the interests that you have in common.

BE PATIENT:

Give your new-found friendship time to develop. Get to know the person with whom you are corresponding, but don't try to rush things too quickly. Remember you may have been waiting your entire life to meet the right person, so what is another month more or less when you know that you are on the right track?
