| 2006 Cheryl lost her best friend, Duke, to complications from Cushings Disease in mid September. Cheryl & Duke competed in many gymkhanas and Team penning events in VT and NY over the years. He was 24 yrs old. They had been a team for 10 yrs. He had a great attitude & loved to work. Whether it was a 3 day Team penning or an all day Gymkhana, he put his heart into it. He would always get excited when he saw the trailer being hooked up. Cheryl wrote a poem about Duke, that her daughter, Keeghan, is going to record. If It Weren't For You From the inside looking out now and the many miles we rode from the dusty trails to the cattle penned through the mud and rocky roads the snicker you would give me when you'd see me coming home If it weren't for you I'd hung my spurs up a long time ago. Remembering back, all the times we shared and the stories, there's been a few You look at me with those big, brown eyes wondering, "Now what are you doin'" The good lord has come to take you to a far and better place and underneath that old oak tree I will always see your face and now and then, when the thunder roars I can hear your hooves through Heaven's floor I miss you, Bud, with all my love. |
