Saturday - August 1, 2003 at Camp Taylor, Columbia, New Jersey Saturday dawned with the promise, or better yet, the threat, of thunderstorms throughout the day, but we were lucky in our little patch of the world as the storm clouds passed right by. Around 2:00 people started showing up and the partying (and sweating) began. You know New Jersey in the summertime, famous for the three H's...hazy, hot and humid, and this day did not disappoint. Everyone enjoyed the food, drinks, music and socializing. Some of the kids went swimming in the lake infamous for its ice skating parties in days of yore, others played darts or dug in the sand pit. As for the adults...our activity was mainly limited to frequent elbow bending under the strong and welcome breeze of the ceiling fans. The hardy souls among us chose to hike to the Lakota Wolf Preserve to check out the inhabitants. Cindy Rhodes Alfonso and Mike Geueke got to show Cindy's Florida-born daughters the wilds of the area when they got up close and personal with three that weren't as glad to see them as we were...a mother black bear and her two cubs. Needless to say, they decided to spend the rest of the afternoon with us two-legged creatures. |
