Disclaimer: I don’t own anybody, but I wish I did… Especially Jeffy…^_^ Oh, this is slash. :D. MIDNIGHT KISSES Jeff Hardy stood in the kitchen, pouring himself another glass of champagne, and laughing as he heard the punch line to the crude joke Chris Jericho told. Rolling his eyes, he took a sip of his drink. It seemed as if there was a never ending stream of these sorts of jokes coming from Chris. Jeff had no choice but to get used to them… Once in a while, they weren’t so bad, but emphasis on the first four words… A glance at the clock on the wall told the younger Hardy it was eleven thirty. Any other night, and this wouldn’t have been of much importance, but that night was New Year’s Eve, the reason all those wrestlers were scattered about his living room. This year it was Jeff who had decided to throw the yearly party. They never really varied much, but this year it was different. It had taken Jeff twenty-five years to figure out that he was gay, so the girlfriend had to go, and this was the first New Year’s in a while he’d spent single. He looked over the counter in to the next room, at the couples… Matt and Lita… Christian and Jericho… Shane and Shannon… Jeff was only traditional when it came to the holidays, and this year, there was no one for him to kiss at midnight. This wasn’t the greatest feeling to have- No one likes to be lonely. He stared at the bubbles in his drink, and tried not to feel so bad. But he realized he would have felt worse if he had been the only single one… “ Dude, that sucked!” Edge laughed as he entered the kitchen, shaking his head. He referred to the joke. “ I heard that, you fairy!” Jericho yelled from the living room, but he was laughing. Edge let Jericho tease him about his sexuality, and in return, Edge teased Chris about hooking up with him. It had gone on for years, for Edge had known his sexuality since he was in high school. Jeff grinned, and held up the champagne bottle. “ Want some?” Edge approached the counter. “ Sure.” The now purple-haired man poured a glass of champagne, and handed it to the blonde one. His eyes then drifted back to the party. Deciding not to wait until midnight, Matt and Lita had began to make out in the corner. Shane and Shannon cuddled on the sofa, and Christian looked very satisfied on Jericho’s lap in the big easy chair in the corner. * Damn*… Jeff missed it. He missed having someone like that. It had been months, and he hadn’t been on a date he’d enjoyed since that breakup. What he missed most was the kisses. Like the one he saw Shane give Shannon. *** Those kisses where you don’t know anything else exists in the world. *** “ No… You can’t have any champagne.” Edge was saying. When Jeff looked at the Canadian, he saw he was looking down at Liger, who’d wandered in to the kitchen, and gazed up at the blonde, wagging his tail. The man put his glass down on the counter, and kneeled down to scratch a now very happy dog behind his ears. His tail wagged back and forth, and Jeff smiled. His dog then pinned Edge to ground, and happily licked his face. As the blonde laughed, and struggled to get the dog off of him, his owner cracked up. “ Come on, Liger.” Jeff pulled the dog off, and gave him, a treat from his pocket. With the dog distracted from the MilkBone, he held out a hand, and helped Edge to his feet. “ So let me get this straight.” Jeff cocked an eyebrow. “ You can kick our asses in those TLC Matches, but you can’t go against my dog?” Edge laughed. “ Shut up.” Jeff smiled. He then couldn’t help but look back in to his living room at the people. The clock reminded him of the loneliness midnight would bring. Edge had followed his gaze, then saw the saddened look appear on Jeff’s face. He put a hand on the other wrestler’s shoulder. “ Hey man… You okay?” Jeff looked back at him, then nodded. “ Yeah… I’m fine.” Edge gave him a look. “ Come on, Jeff… Dude, something’s up. I’m not blind, and I’ve known you for years.” The American sighed. “ It’s stupid, man.” Running his hand over his golden hair, Edge asked, “ As stupid as getting pinned by a dog?” Jeff chuckled. He was quiet for a few moments, then shook his head. He wasn’t exactly jumping at the chance to tell Edge what the problem was. It seemed to him like such a juvenile complaint, if he chose to speak it. “Jeff?” Upon looking at him, Jeff found himself staring in to those blue, blue eyes. It was strange how eyes as blue as ice became fire, and burned in to him in those moments. Geez, Edge was beautiful… He suddenly looked at the floor, then shrugged. “ You’ll laugh like hell, man… But I don’t care.” Looking up at Edge, he finally admitted it. “ I have no one to kiss at midnight.” Nervously, he turned the baseball cap he wore around to backwards. But Edge didn’t laugh. He didn’t send Jeff an odd or mocking look. He merely smiled gently, and left the room. The other man watched him. * 10… 9… 8… Jeff leaned against the doorpost, and watched the countdown flash on the T.V. Around him, the people in the living room chanted down the numbers. 7… 6… 5… Jeff’s eyes traveled around the room, and it occurred to him that Edge was nowhere to be found. He looked in to the kitchen, over the counter, but the blonde ( well, the blonde that chose to keep his hair it’s natural color anyway,) wasn’t there, either. Where the hell could he have gone off to? I didn’t see him go anywhere… 4… 3… 2… But then just like that, Edge came up behind Jeff. 1… 0! As the clock hit midnight, Jeff was pressed up the wall, and Edge’s lips were pressed up against his. At first, he tensed at the unexpected kiss, but when a tongue ran along his bottom lip, he surrendered, and pulled Edge closer to him, and they fell in to the kiss. So Edge wasn’t the significant other Jeff longed for. But the kiss he was receiving was chock full of passion, of heat and lust, and it was the kiss that he wanted so badly. Everything around him melted away, and he reveled in the moments. When the two wrestlers finally released from their kiss, gasping for breath, it was 12:01. In surprise, Jeff stared at the Canadian, then they grinned. “ Happy New Year, Jeff.” Edge placed one more small kiss against his lips. Jeff gave him one back. “ Happy New Year Edge.” ~*~ A.N.: Okay… That was short. What did you expect?... Well, how was it?
