Disclaimer: I don't own anyone, waaaah. I WISH I OWNED JEFFY!!!! -_-'... Last Kisses There's nothing I can do. Don't get me wrong. I knew that eventually, it would probably come to this, it's just... Now that it's here it's hard to swallow the facts as they are. I've lost her completely now. She was never truly mine to begin with. Even when we were together, she still longed for him. I could see it. I've always been able to know what she's thinking without her having to say it. It all comes out in those eyes... They used to look in to mine, smiling after we made love, or showing me sympathy when I told her I loved her, and she didn't say it back. She never said it back... I still love her. I always will. The way I see it, she's my soul mate. I can see what she sees in him, and those things make her blind to what we truly had. A bond stronger than anything I've ever experienced. ... Then again, this last note might not be true at all. I've got the guts to admit it, I love her too much for my own good. So much in fact, that it mutates my perspectives on a lot of things, especially the two of them. My watch says it's close to one a.m. when I knock at her door. About twelve hours now, I reckon. Yeah, I'll be there. I have to be. Even with recent events, I'm his best man. A few years back, I promised my brother I'd be his best man at his wedding, and he'd be mine in return. But he might not get his chance, because I'm watching him marry the woman I love. Speaking of her... Lita opens the door, and is surprised to find me on the porch of the house she and Matt have. " Jeff?" She yawns. Suddenly nervous, I dig my hands in to my pockets. " Hey." I can barely hear my own voice, it came out so softly. The puzzled look still on her face, she comes outside. We sit down on the steps. " What's up?" She asks. I know I woke her up, for her eyes have that sleepy fog they always have when she's tired. Letting my eyes travel over her body, I find her in a tank top and shorts. I've seen her in a lot of things, but this was always the sexiest in its simplicity. It reminds me of the times we were together, and she wore this before we went to bed, and she let me strip her of her clothes, and- " Jeff." When she voices my name again, I look up. I gaze at her, and before I can think to do anything else, lean in, and place a single short kiss against her lips. A slight blush crawls in to her cheeks, and she looks away. Silence reigns for a few moments, except for the distant chirping of crickets. Finally, she says in a voice that's as quiet as mine was, " You... Shouldn't have done that." I lean forward, my arms resting on my knees. " I'm sorry." Sighing, she comes closer. Putting a hand on my face, she brings it to look at hers. " I know." She says simply. And as if I don't know what she's talking about, she adds, " How you... Feel about me." Damn... Of COURSE she knows. I should have realized this. Lita is the only one who's ever truly known me. Not even Matt has put all the pieces together correctly. Just like that, she's saved me the trouble of telling her the things I came here to tell her. That I wish it were me standing with her at the altar. " I don't know what to say, Jeff." She says standing up, and leaning up against the railing. " You don't have to." I get up, too and draw her in to a hug. " Lita, you put everything there is to be said is in the air around us. That, and you have the knowledge I came here to tell you." She hesitates, and then finally puts her arms around me. " I love you, too Jeff." She whispers. " Only... Not like that..." I let a few more quiet moments go by, then tell her, " I know." I release her from my arms. " I just... I came here to tell you one more time before tomorrow." I then glance at my watch. " No, today." When I smile gently at her at this last note, she does back. I'm glad I could make her smile, when it will be Matt doing this for the rest of her life. " There are lots of fish in the sea, Jeff." She tells me. " Cliché, I know, but it's true. I'm not the only one. Will you promise me something?" " Anything..." I whisper. Her eyes sparkle gently. " Move on." She tells me, softly, not at all attempting to be cruel. " I want to see you happy. I want to be at YOUR wedding." Casting my eyes down, I tell her, " There's only one fish-" She shakes her head. " No, there's not. You're the one who's always looking for something else, something new. Why are you being stubborn now? Go out, and find someone. You will if you try..." She closes her eyes, and sighs. When she opens them, she bites her lip, then speaks. " I'll tell you a secret... I love Matt, but if I weren't with him-" Cutting her off, I place a finger on her lips. I know what she's about to say, but for some reason, I don't want to hear it. Smiling, I don't say anything, just nod, and place one last kiss against her forehead, before heading off. As I drive along, I wonder if she's right. Maybe. Maybe not, it sure wouldn't be the first time. Perhaps in the end it will turn out that I really am wrong in thinking she's my soul mate. But that sure seems correct, and I sure am jealous. ~*~ Author's note: o_O. Hm... :: ponders it::... Well? PLEEEEEASE review! I'll love you forever!
