Ah! The taste of ale is great indeed as I now have the power I need to inform you generally about HighGuard. Let us begin. If your looking for variety you have certainly come to the right continent! Wait.. this is the only continent. Well then! It is fate it certainly is that has brought you to my book. Fate or 10 silver pieces. Nevertheless, welcome to HighGuard. Lets begin with the most important area of HighGuard, Central HighGuard. Better known as Sarith. Sarith is an area of great importance as it is where great rulers meet and decide what is best for their lands. Sarith is a regulated community and has many restrictions. Not even I Gandar slayer of 5 dozen liches , beholders, and 5 dragons single handedly, would dare draw my sword!
-Quite the braggart he is probably telling of the wooden cutouts in his house!
This is due to the fact that Sarith is the most wellguarded area of all of well HighGuard. The armies in HighGuard are so great that it is rumored that a mage has learned of a way to revive corpses in perfect form, fashion them with armor and send them into battle. I do not know if this is true but it gives me shudders to think of it. Anyways there is more to Sarith then meets the eye. It is said that the immortal council of the forgotten relics lives in a great underground castle built by dwarves and fashioned by elves. It is however punishable by death if you speak of such things. So don't let me catch you saying it! You can imagine being the center of excitement here in HighGuard that the populace is the greatest. There is no tree in sight where I am standing right now. Areas in between the cities are simply great highways! It was not always like this however. It use to be that Sarith was rural and filled with forests. However after the war of farewells. The former paradise in the east was shattered and turned into a lair for orcs and fowl creatures to live in.
-Ah alas Gandar is not lying about this part. This Dooms Crevice is a dangerous area.
As we leave Sarith we go to the east. We come upon the stinking fowl lairs of bar mistresses. Then we travel further east into the depths of Dooms Crevice. Now do not let this scare you. The only doom here is the lack of ale
-take this comment lightly as Gandar has not yet been in the east before
This place is known as Dooms Crevice because doom does indeed pop up.It pops up in the form of an ambush of fowls orcs, falling into one of the crevices of magma and such. All would lead you to doom in this area. However Dooms Crevice was not always like this. Dooms Crevice was once a utopia. An area of infinite happiness where immortal men were as commom as peasants. Then the war of farewells came. Instant devestation. The parties from both sides took great casualties. Though I will not go in depth for this shall be described later. For now it is enough to know that the sacrafice was great. Many stories ended and were fated to end on that day. Ah Anyways. Afterwards the area never came back to its former glory. It remains a stinking wasteland to this day.
Ah I am glad to leave that bar mistresses home..
-he probably means his mom
We now travel north into the Highfrost region. As its name implys Highfrost is constantly snowing. Few natural animals survive here except bears and the like. However, Highfrost is home to many Un-Natural creatures such as undead, and dragons. Though they all step aside at the mention of Gandar the great! It is unknown why so many evil creatures are drawn to this area. One explanation is that anything but evil creatures could survive in this area. However I believe other wise. A great artifact that has no name is rumored to be in the northern part of HighFrost. Though no one has ever proved it. They say this artifact has a great power that attracts all evil creatures near it. It is said that wielders of this artifact become immortal gods even. This is just a rumor of course but I'm sure its true! Otherwise what other purpose does the council of the forgotten relics hold?
I must agree something sacred is on that mountain. However to say that it is the lost relic of strife. Well that is preposterous. However I believe that something evil does reside there.
Now we travel west into the sunshine that is West HighGuard
Otherwise known as GrandPlains. Though it is certainly not all plains. I know, you know I was born there. Most Likely if you are human, you were too. This is the area where humans most live.. Farming and foraging. Life is indeed good here. However, despite this excellent quality of life many who are born here, Long for the open road. This is the best place for adventures to start out. With forests abound and weak monsters to fight. This is the training grounds for futures heroes such as I. Shielded from society they live in ignorant bliss.
-Indeed I was also born here. As a resident I can vouch for the fact that stout adventurers start out here.
Shielded but not blind. Ahh another jug of ale. That's it.
They too have heard of Sariths endless preparations. Even now they amass men at the borders young and old. Ready to strike down all who enter. Indeed I am proud to be born in such an area!
Now we travel south to the final area of HighGuard. Called Stonemar by Dwarves and TreeBrook by elves. These are the homes to the Dwarves and elves. It is not by chance either. This happens to be the oldest place in HighGuard. It is also the most beautiful many say. Whether above or bottom ground. Drool Drool if you have yet to see a place such as this. For the forests are so thick and green yet they have no insects. The caves are so dark and cool yet the beauty burns like fire. This is home for many creatures, a wondrous place above and bottom. There are mountains and around those mountains great forest. In the forests lie great elven cities and rangers. In the depths lie beautiful diamonds and underwater streams. Such jewels you will probably never see. For the elves and dwarves don't take kindly to strangers S
Ah and now we reach the end of our journey. I have showed you all the areas of intrest. In (chapter two) I will go deeper into the history of Sarith. Farewell for now my friends.
Ah Gandar; what a fool. Though he is a dear friend. I believe I should now introduce myself. I am Eloden elven wizard. I have traveled with him for many a year. Though the ale has not dulled my senses as it has Gandar.
