Ah Finally! I was beginning to think that old elf would never keep his mouth quiet. Even so, He was right about most things in chapter 2. So you've heard the troubles a brewing and you wish to hear more? Well too bad. That's not in this chapter! HA!

However there are quite interesting things in this chapter that will keep your face plastered to my book like a gelatinous cube is to a dungeon! In this chapter we will be going over the whole history of HighGuard and how it was formed.

HighGuard the name is very worldly. However, How was it created and why is it in the state of the affairs it is in now. Well let us start in the history books.

1000000 UY-1450 YOD

At this time gods from outer planes recognize this plane as the perfect place of existence. Together they felt they could create worlds worthy of there own great stature. However, as time went on their agendas split as did they. Soon after they created temples among them selves for us humans and elves to worship. In the years of darkness 750 years before the War Of Farewells, great temples were built and fashioned to there gods liking.

There was Naura the goddess of Nature. She would be the closest to the "good gods"

Beautiful and fair other gods looked on her in amazement. However to see her with mortal eyes meant instant death. Let me think here… Ah yes, there was also the god Galant. Galant is a good god that loves to battle against evil. However he is chaotic so he attracts fighters and the like only. There is also Zeradin a neutral goddess. Zeradin is the goddess of magic she mostly keeps out of worldly agendas however if you wish to know more you can talk to ol Eloden. Then… there is Goldeart (gol-dae-art). He is the creator. He made the elves and dwarves and when he got bored with them he mixed them together and got humans. Finally… There is the forgotten lord. Mortash. Banished after being accused of starting the Farewell war he was stripped of his power and cast down to the earth.

1400 YOD

Elves are seen by first human civilization. Trade and talks follow. Some humans are invited to visit the Elven cities. Or so I have heard, for I did not live in such a time. However I know that those were the only humans to ever see those elven cities.. ever.

Heheh you may think Eloden may know all about this. Truth is… he has not yet been into one of these citadels yet. For even though he is of Elven heritage, he was born in the GrandPlains

Only fools pick upon the stronger wizard

1300 YOD A great man Lovar is dubbed king of the realms of GrandPlains. Through his rule the region is prosperous and great armies are formed… Lovar died at 1226YOD before his natural death. One day the kings servant went to see him to his breakfest and found him dead in his bed. The strange thing is no signs of struggle is found. 1 month later, a strange mark appears at the doors of the castle of mare. Proclaiming that in 500 year should The kingdom of the GrandPlains be entered in the war the current ruler would be slaughtered. Scary stuff I say. Just coincidence Eloden says. Let me take a swig of my ale. Ahh… there we go.

800 YOD The war farewells begin. Millions are split apart between factions. This war was dubbed the war of farewells because wives were leaving there husbands for jobs. Im jesting. Though I do wish those women would pipe down about there "rights".

Quite the proud man Gandar trie to womanize but it is comments like these that will leave him wife-less

However familys are being split apart. Thousands die at the battle of Blood Moore at the edge of Dooms Crevice the first day alone. However… there is no good and bad in this. This war was the machination of Mortash. Who was rumored to have killed the king and replaced his form and controlled the great armies of Demons Crevice. Which was known as Angels crossing back then.

775 YOD is the 25 anniversary of the war. Mortash has taken the strong hold of all the men in east HighGuard. However in one last resistance a commoner flees to the Grandplains to beg for help.

Heedful of the prophecy proclaimed years ago The ruler of mare is hesitant.

765 YOD The last stronghold of Angels crossing is taken…

Mortash marches west. The fool of a king Elmire sends forth all his men in a great struggle along with the men of Sarith.

760 YOD The battle of BlackFire

With much effort a combined melee of weapons manages to push Mortashes force back behind the Sarith borders. A alliance with the elves and dwarves are formed.

755 YOD After ½ of the enter population of HighGuard is wiped out Mortash finally retreats into his dark castle in the depths of DoomsCrevice. Swearing revenge the Dark Lord killed thousands with one spell.

722YOD After the hectic years Elmire is declared the winner of the war… immediately after Elmire passes away in his own bed. Sick and tired of the death and suffering Mortash has caused. Naura appeals to the other gods. Together they call upon there power banning Mortash from the gods.

From 722 - 298 YOD many wars take place. The civilized word is forgotten thus not enough is known in this period for even I Gandar The Great to present.

However at 299YOD some men made a great effort to record what they saw. For it was big news. A man claiming to be the father of the god of strife comes in and takes control of central HighGuard when a small group of thieves manage to kidnap the king. For much time the political centers are dictated by the strange man. Soon, all of HighGuard is under his control. However a small underground movement attempts to change all this forever. Created by former lords there faction soon grows in power.

Finally in 100YOD the heir of the strange man: Mortis. Is banished from the realms forever. This was done approximately one month before the arrival of the artifact to Sarith. The losses for the resistance were great. However, they could not allow the power of the relic to slip into one as powerful as Mortis.

Indeed Mortis was rumored to have been seeking the relic so that he could become a god and dictate over all of HighGuard!

10 CT :calm time

This time is the time of rebirth. Ah yes I was born at this time. 10 CT was an important year. It was the year the council of the forgotten relics was formed. Of course I'm sure you all remember this time as a whelp or have at least heard of it. The council was a group of archmagi who were entrusted with the sacred relic. They vowed never to let it return into evil hands again.

However the power of the relic was too great. It soon corrupted the archmagi to the core. The archmagi Azmodos attempted to seize the artifact. The leaders of Sarith seeing the awful power of the relic, ordered it to be brought to a undisclosed location never to be found again.

The archmagi, already corrupted were banished into an underground area. Some say it is just below the sewers of Sarith!
