Napleon remains in Paris. In Germany, the troops of the Grande Arme are now securely in winter quarters.

Marshal Soult, at the head of 25,000 men, braves the snow-choked passes of the Pyrennes to establish a French military presence in the peninsula.

La Romana withdraws from Portugal into Spain. Meanwhile, in Toulouse on the Franco-Spanish border, Marshal Soult and his entourage arrive for an unspecified assignment.
