NWBHC Newsletter (snail version)

Our regular newsletter is on its way to you and you should be receving it real soon.  We have a bonus this time.  Since our new envelopes are lighter weight, we will able to add to more 2-sided pages at the same postage rate and still have room for little goodies, like those little Christmas ornaments.

SNOW!

Mary Ann has had snow again this morning!  This makes 3 Tuesdays in a row.  I was blowing like crazy and snowing but it didn't stick.  I don't know about everyone else out there, but I think it's trying to make up for the dry winter (and I'm not too sure if I really care for it, but we need to bring water levels back up).

Website visitor statistics

I promised you I'd let you in on some secrets last time regarding our website.  Our counter picks up all kinds of neat information about our visitors.  Of course these visitors have to stop at the "first" page on our website.  We've had 4600 visits to this page since March 1997.  That's an average of about 1000 a year, but since we only had a few hundred in the first year, that means that more people have been stopping been more recently.  The counter tells us that most of our visitors are using a Win95 Operating System (1869), but we have several others as well:
    Win 98 (916)     Win NT (213)     Win 3.x (192)
    Other (191)      Mac (157)        Web TV (25)
    Win 2000 (20)    Win ME (8)       Sun OS (7)
    Other Unix (2)   Linux (1)
I know that doesn't mean much to you, but if you know what your system's software is (ie. Win95), you can see how many others out there are using the same software plus a bit about other versions.

Now let's see what browsers are being used.  Explore tops it with 1186.  But there is a breakdown for Internet Explorer versions 2, 3, 4 & 5, as well as one for Netscape, versions 1 thur 4.  Netscape 4.x is second highest with 883 visitors how were using that browser.  Other browser types were Mosaic (1) and Other (6).  Our traffic is fairly well spread out over the week, with fewer visitors on Sunday and Saturday.  It's kinda interesting to see an almost flat line throughout the week.  Most our our visitors drop in between 8 am and 10 pm, but we have visistors around the clock.  This one makes a really nice
"bell" curve.

Now the best part - where our visitors are from!
    USA Commercial (1419)     Network/ISP (1283)
USA Educational (227)     Non Profit Organizations (40)
USA Government (14)       USA Military (9)
The rest are all countries:     Canada (64), United States (40), Colombia(40), Australia (28), Netherlands (25), United Kingdom (21), Sweden (17), Denmark (8), France (7), Norway (6), Finland (6), Israel (6), Austria (6), Germany (5), Italy (5), Japan (3), Belgium (3), Portugal (2), Malaysia (2), South Africa (2); Switzerland, New Zealand, Poland, Croatia, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, Slovenia, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, & Spain

Some of you might think this is boring, but when you track an "international" website it's kinda fun.  This is the sort of impact we have on the world, good, bad or indifferent.  We have been noticed, and for that we've grown.  We've gained several members just because we had a website, and our stable web address keeps our regular visitors coming back.

Sure we may go through our growing pains.  All Internet Service Providers (ISP) go through that too - and many have worse pains than those we've ever experienced.  All in all our website grows and expands to meet the needs of our members and other visitors.

And finally, I'll leave you with another note.  Our computer problems have almost been solved.  A few more tweaks and it will be functioning within normal parameters again.  The scanner hasn't been tested and the zip drive hasn't been re-installed yet, but everything else seems to be working ok for now.

I hope you are all well our there in cyberspace.
Till next time,
Eileen
