At least it is certainly better than the last few I've seen. You all have probably been wondering what's happened to me. Well, I spent the last couple of weeks down with the flu or cold or whatever -- we just call it the "crud." Even the doctors are non-commital about giving it a name - "Viral Syndrome" - which covers just about any flu or cold or other virus you could catch this time of year. Now that I've taken my regiment of antibiotics and my husband is in the midst of his, we are all getting better around here. Kinda strange with everything being on hold for a couple weeks. Anyway, we have a couple of updates for you. In this Issue: New Arrivals Pet Update Earthquake in Washington Weathercast +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ NEW Arrivals Thanks to Lisa S. for sharing this story: "Speaking of new arrivals, my fiance and I wandered in to Petsmart this weekend and ran right into the middle of "pet adoption" day there. On hand were members of CAPS (Cascade Animal Protection Society) a wonderful non-profit, no-kill group, where volunteers foster the abandoned, abused, etc, animals until a loving family can be found. We both absolutely fell in love with the most beautiful blue-eyed, silverey blue merle Aussie pup named Picasso. And yes, we adopted him on the spot, tho he wont be home to us til next weekend, as he has an appt at the vet Friday to be neutered. We are very excited to be adding him to our menagerie (2 other dogs, 1 cat) especially since our Aussie mix, Nikki, is getting too arthritic to play much w/our Blue Healer mix, Roscoe, and Roscoe, being young and full of spit & vinegar, really needs a playmate. "I do have some info on CAPS if anyone is interested. I was impressed at their dedication to saving these animals from euthanasia, and how well cared for and loved they were by their "foster" families. They definately have my support now. " +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Pet Update Jan M's new little kitty, Sam-I-Am, is settling in just fine and a new kitty may soon be joining him... perhaps she is his mother? I'll keep you posted. +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Earthquake in Washington We sure felt that one all over the Northwest! At 6.8 it's no wonder either. I happened to be home at the time, and the models managed to survive rather well considering the number that jumped off shelves and got the joy-ride of their lives. Only one injury in my house - a little SM Arab stallion decided to jump off the very top shelf to join the chaos on the floor. He's in the horspital recouperating. Jan M's collection survived even better, with only a couple shelf jumpers and no injuries. I guess Mary Ann had a good ride as well, but I haven't heard any reports about her collection. I hope all those of you who experienced the quake survived, nerves and horses all in tact! +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Weathercast The weather has been quite fair in the Northwest this winter. Way to dry for a normal winter, so maybe we'll get a wetter-than-normal spring to help make up for water losses. It's thawing out in Riverside, Washington, so I hope Mary Ann's doing ok. Since she's moved into the new house, won't have any wash-outs on the driveway anymore. Believe me - that was a major disaster, and I'm glad she doesn't have to deal with hauling groceries across a makeshift plywood bridge this winter. +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Take care everyone, and stay away from the crud!
