{TFP! Debating Wrestling vs Entertainment)

Hello all you wrestling fans and welcome to another
edition of my on going argument with the entire
wrestling community also known as The Fan's
Perspective! If you are keeping track this is edition
39 and I have been doing this for almost a year and a
half. So it would be understandable that I would make
assumptions right? Well I thought so! Apparently the
author of this column has been under the gas mask too
many times because I thought we all loved the sport of
professional wrestling. I assumed that anyway. But the
more people I talk to I get the same feedback. Most of
you fans are not into wrestling for what wresting in
its purest form is, action, you're into it because you
like the drama and the hype and all that goes with it.
WWE fans are in it for Kane raping Lita, Lita having a
miscarriage, WWE writers always coming up with
storylines that are racism related, HHH screwing a
corpse, Billy and Chuck being a gay couple, and that's
what you're into...sports entertainment.

You see there may be matches on free WWE television,
and the occasional one might have some level of
importance, on a rare occasion a match might even be
decent or even better than decent and being average.
But the main thing that keeps you coming back for more
has got to be the drama that shrouds the shows that
WWE puts forth. I know I'm not alone when I write this
but not all wrestling fans like sports entertainment.
And that's something that you sports entertainment
fans have to start to realize. Just because some fans
live and die with ROH does not mean you have to bash
them because you believe the WWE "product" is better.
I have never seen a ROH match, interview, ring, crowd,
set, show, etc. but I still go out of my way to at
least put them over in my columns once in awhile
because the people at ROH know what the hell they are
doing. They have a 'pure wrestling' concept and that
is what wrestling goes back to. Those are its roots.
WWE has no roots of which to speak of. They never
mention being apart of the NWA, they occasionally
mention old WWWF, but they don't ever really tell you
about their history because they want you all to
forget that past because they don't want you to have
anything to compare their current product to. In WWE's
mind, as a collective unit made up of officials,
writers, board members, and announcers, the only
product you should be worrying about is the current
weekly soap opera episode. They never mention that
back in the attitude era they were kickin' ass and
nowadays they get that ass handed to them. They want
to make you think that this WWE is the same as the WWF
that used to be hip and cool. But my friends, that
would be a lie!

Back when there were two major wrestling companies,
WCW and WWF, the product on both shows was at least
good all the time. But there was the one company that
had the superb rating each and every week. There would
always be a winner. Nowadays, you don't hear about
that. Why? Because the writers have nothing to
motivate them like they had in the past. There is
never a winner anymore. The fans should really be the
ultimate winners but in today's WWE world there is no
such thing as fans becoming winners. Because now they
have everyone shelling out 35 or 70 dollars a month to
watch pay-per-views headlined by the likes of Triple H
and John Bradshaw Layfield. There is hardly anything
left in The Undertaker to be spoken of and the same
can be applied to Shawn Michaels. There is nothing
left for them to do, they have become complacent. They
are always world title contenders so they get numerous
shots against the same opponents all the time. When
the brand extension started I thought we would see new
main eventers, I saw 2 so far. They are Randy Orton
and Brock Lesnar. Brock is now done with the company
in terms of actually wrestling and Orton has lost a
lot of his steam because of his ongoing feud with
Triple H. I thought, assumed would be a word more like
it, that we would see Booker T, RVD, Kane, Maven, and
anyone else with potential take the top spots in the
company. But instead it's the same guys all the darn
time. Undertaker, Big Show, Kurt Angle, JBL, HHH,
Michaels, and to add a little spice but not too much
because that could actually improve the product they
placed Orton, Benoit, and Guerrero in the top spots
for a little while with the nice shiny gold belts that
really don't mean much these days to WWE or the WWE
fans.

TNA has promoted every PPV with a huge main event
involving top stars and with the exception of Jeff
Jarrett the top spots are always used in rotation to
get every guy an opportunity at the title. And Jeff
Jarrett is a classic villain of the company and in my
opinion one of the best heels in the sport right now.
It should be the face chasing the heel champion, for
the majority of the time. The title matches should be
something special. Every match should be special. The
WWE promotes 2-3 matches like they will die if they
hype any other match! The point is WWE fans is that
you like the drama, you love the characters, and most
of all you like the hype. You are in it for
entertainment not wrestling. I on the other hand love
the SPORT of professional wrestling and appreciate it
for what it is worth. And in my opinion if you want to
find a product on the market that will satisfy your
hunger for some real total non-stop action wrestling
then start supporting TNA Wrestling because that is
where the future is. Right there in that little
company with the biggest heart in the wrestling
industry.

I said it before and I will say it again...wrestling
and sports entertainment are two totally different
things. If you can't accept that then stop badgering
fans of the real thing and go stick with your group of
WWEntertainment fans. Because quite frankly there is
really nothing you can say to make us go back to
watching something inferior to what we're watching
right now. Whether that be Ring Of Honor or TNA
Wrestling, it doesn't matter because those two fine
companies are both better in terms of wrestling value
and "product" than anything WWE has in its history
books.
