State Highways

State Highway 2

Hidden Corridor under U.S. 72.

State Highway 4

Signed with U.S. 78 from MS State Line to Winfield, unsigned from Winfield to the new section of 78, signed on new section around Jasper, unsigned from Jasper to GA Line.

State Highway 5

Highway 5 starts out in Thomasville on US43, goes up thru Marion and to B'ham w/ US 11 then up US 78 to Jasper then it goes thru Lynn and finally ends in Natural Bridge at the 278/13/5 junction. It used to continue up to Spruce Pine with 13 but it was terminated a few years ago.

State Highway 13

Highway 13 is the unsigned state route for most of US43. It is first signed in Fayette County, about 3 miles from the Tuscaloosa/Fayette County Line it breaks away from US43 and then it meets back with it in Spruce Pine and continues with 43 signed up to the Tennessee line.

State Highway 17

An alternate rural, but important route from Mobile to the TN Line via Florence. Unsigned w/ US45 from Mobile to Washington County where it cuts away from US45. Signed the rest of the way to the Tennessee Line. From Hamilton to Florence it is co-signed with US43. Sometimes is called Mobile-Muscle Shoals Short Route (I've only heard one of my teachers call it this and it was in a book about Lamar County I read).

State Highway 18

A route from the MS Line east of Columbus(ms) thru Vernon and Fayette to Oakman. It is signed with US43 from Fayette to the 43/13/18 interchange.

State Highway 19

Highway 19 goes from Detroit (yes Alabama, not Michigan) to Red Bay via Vina. From Detroit to Hamilton is old Hwy 17, and it is also the worse kept part of the Highway.

State Highway 20

Highway 20 starts at the TN line NW of the Natchez Trace Parkway to Huntsville. From Muscles Shoals to Madison it is co-signed with US 72 ALT, and from I-65 to the Madison exit it is co-signed with I-565.

State Highway 24

Highway 24 is Corridor V of the Applichian Mtn. Corridor. It is in process of being four-laned thru out the state. It starts at the MS border at Red Bay and ends in Decatur. I am not forsure of whatthe official end of 24 is, is it at the Beltline exit(HWY 67), or at the end of 67 at the red light on 72A/20, or is it at 31 in Decatur?

State Highway 33

Highway 33 starts in Double Springs and travels through Bankhead National Forest to Moulton and then goes on north to end on US72A/AL20 east of Courtland.

State Highway 36

Highway 36 starts in the community of Wren and goes through Danville then across I-65 and ends in Lacey's Springs on US231.

State Highway 44

Highway 44 goes from Guin to Brilliant (approx. 10 miles) via Twin (aka Yampertown). This road shouldn't even be a state highway. The road condition is worse than most county roads, I wouldn't not advise anyone to drive over 45 mph on this road b/c of the pot holes and curves and just the condition of the road. The best part of the road is a mile strecth from Twin to Corridor X(US78/AL4).

State Highway 64

Highway 64 starts about 5 miles south of the Tennessee line on US43/AL13. Then it continues to Lexington and ends on AL207 about a mile from the TN Line.

State Highway 69

Highway 69 starts out in Jackson and goes to Linden from there it goes to Tuscaloosa up to Jasper over to Cullman then to Arab and ending up in Guntersville. A very long State Highway which seems to be broken up into groups. From Jasper to Cullman is about the only stretch I've travelled, and it is beautiful country, reminds me of Tennessee and Kentucky.

State Highway 74

Highway 74 is signed alone from US78(Fykes Crossing) to Hamilton, then it is signed with US 278 to the Winston/Culman Co Line. Then it is unsigned the rest of the way to Georgia.

State Highway 96

Highway 96 starts at the MS Line east of Millport and goes thru Kennedy and Belk, and finally ends in Fayette on AL18. It is co-signed with AL17 from Millport to Kennedy.

State Highway 101

Highway 101 starts on old AL24 about 3 miles east of Mt. Hope. It goes north and crosses the new AL24, from there it goes to Town Creek, then it crosses the Wheeler Dam at the Tennessee River and US72, and finally turns into TN277 ending on US43.

State Highway 102

Highway 102 starts out in the community of Lawerence's Mills in Fayette County on US43 then it crosses AL129 about three tents of a mile from the beginning. From there it continues east to end in Townley. I have heard that the unsigned exit on US78 will the future end of AL102 once an extention is added.

State Highway 107

Highway 107 quick route from Guin to Fayette via Wayside Community. In Wayside they are a four-way stop with County Road 36, which is one of the first times I have seen a four-way stop w/ a state and county road in the middle of no where, well its Wayside, but thats not much ;).

State Highway 118

Highway 118 starts out unsigned with US278 at the MS Line west of Gattman(Ms) and goes through Sulligent and Beaverton to Guin. It is signed from Guin to US78/AL129 int. in Winfield, then it is unsigned till the new section of 78 is open east of Carbon Hill. It ends in Jasper at the AL69 interction.

State Highway 124

Highway 124 is an old section of US78 that goes through Townley.

State Highway 129

Highway 129 is a road that starts in Halleyville and ends in Fayette (Lawerence's Mill). It goes through Brilliant, Winfield, and Glenn Allen and the communities of Whitehouse, Hubbertville, and Lawerence's Mill. From Winfield to Glenn Allen was old US78.

State Highway 133

Highway 133 is also called the Cox Creek Parkway. It is a semi-loop around the Quad-cities.

State Highway 142

Highway 142 is in Guin, it is an old section of US278. The road is approx. 2 miles long, it is only signed at two places, at both begginings. The only reason to go on this road is if you are going from Guin to Detroit, or going to the waterslide. I suggest not going on this road at night if you are not familiar with the road. They are a real narrow and dangerous bridge over the railroad tracks that many have died on b/c of traffic accidents.

State Highway 157

Highway 157 starts out in Cullman and runs North-west to Moulton and then from there to the Quad-Cities then it goes on north to Tennessee.

State Highway 171

Highway 171 is signed alone from Northport to Fayette, giving a more direct way from Fayette to Tuscaloosa than US43. From Fayette to its end in Hamilton it is signed with US43, as well as AL118 from Winfield to Guin and US278 from Guin to Hamilton.

State Highway 172

Highway 172 starts out in Vina on AL19 and it goes east to Hodges and then down to Hackelburg and then with a few turns it goes to Bear Creek where it ends on AL13.

State Highway 184

Highway 184 starts out in Muscles Shoals and ends on AL101 south of the TN River.

State Highway 187

Highway 187 starts about 5 miles north of Hamilton on US43/AL17. It goes north to Hodges and ends in the community of Belgreen.

State Highway 195

Highway 195 runs from Jasper to Halleyville through Double Springs. I think that from Halleyville to Double Springs in an old section of US278.

State Highway 207

Highway 207 runs from Rogersville to the Tennessee Line.

State Highway 233

Highway 233 goes from Glenn Allen up through the community of Rock City on US278/AL74 just west of the Marion/Winston County Line. From Glen Allen to the US78/AL118 intersection is an old section of US78.

State Highway 237

Highway 237 starts out on AL172 north of Hackelburg and ends in Phil Campbell on AL13. AL237 is an old section of US43.

State Highway 241

Highway 241 starts in the community of Whitehouse on US278/AL74. It goes north to Bear Creek where it has a short duplex with AL172 and ends on AL237 just south of Phil Campell.

State Highway 243

Highway 243 starts on AL195 between Halleyville and Double Springs and ends in Russellville on AL24.

State Highway 247

Highway 247 starts just east of Red Bay and goes through the Bear Creek Area to Tuscambia, making a faster route to the Quad-Cities.

State Highway 253

Highway 253 starts out in Winfield and goes through Twin (Yampertown) and ends in Hackelburg. Some say this is a faster way from Winfield to Hackelburg, but with all the curves and turns, I would say that US43 would be faster.

State Highway 269

Highway 269 is just an alternate route from Jasper to B'ham.
