Association of County Office Employees
GREETINGS:
Greetings from the
Washington/Alaska Association of County Office Employees, I’m very glad to be
here representing the County office Employees from the great States of
Washington and Alaska.
ANNUAL MEETING:
The WAASCOE Board of
Directors decided to hold this year’s Annual Meeting in October. In the past we have held our Annual Meetings
in April or May but the Board of Directors wanted to give the newly elected
President a longer period of time in office before going to the Northwest Area
Rally and National Conference each year.
MEMBERSHIP:
Washington and Alaska have
63 regular members and 5 associate members combined. Current membership stands at around 65%.
FINANCE:
Financially WAASCOE is in
good shape. Members are paying their
dues, some with a one-time payment but the majority by monthly check-off
payments.
LEGISLATIVE:
WAASCOE sent 3 people to the
legislative conference in Washington DC.
They were able to make contact with several congressional Legislators
and Aides while there.
ISSUES:
The biggest issue in our
state continues to be staffing. Most
other issues are generated from the lack of adequate staffing. The loss of temporary employees (staffing),
time-off (not enough staff), not replacing retiring employees (staffing), it
goes on and on but the main theme is NOT ENOUGH STAFF for the offices.
CONCLUSION:
The Officers and Board of
Directors of WAASCOE are working hard to increase membership, improve working
conditions, increase benefits and improve morale. We are looking forward to working with the Northwest Area
Executive and the officers of NASCOE:
I want to thank our host for
providing such a fine facility, food and entertainment.
