Course Description	A course designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to install, configure, use, support and troubleshoot the TCP/IP suite on the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system.

Prerequisites
NW207 or consent of instructor

  Course and Instructional Objectives
  Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to:

  1.      Define TCP/IP and describe its advantages in the Windows 2000 operating system.
  2.      Install and configure Microsoft TCP/IP.
  3.      Test a TCP/IP configuration using ping and ipconfig.
  4.      Identify the network ID and host ID portions of an IP address.
  5.      Explain the fundamentals of the TCP/IP Architecture.
  6.      Explain the function of a subnet mask and how to implement subnet masking.
  7.      Explain and implement supernetting.
  8.      Explain the difference between static and dynamic IP routing.
  9.      Describe and implement the Windows 2000 Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS).
  10.    Use the tracert utility to isolate route or network link problems.
  11.    Explain how a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) client obtains IP addresses from a DHCP server.
  12.    Explain and understand the function of a DHCP relay agent.
  13.    Back up and restore the DHCP and WINS databases.
  14.    Describe the types of services provided by NetBIOS over TCP/IP.
  15.    Understand the host name resolution process.
  16.    Understand the NetBIOS name resolution process.
  17.    Describe the function of the Microsoft Windows Internet Name Service (WINS).
  18.    Install and configure a WINS server.
  19.    Explain the Microsoft Windows browsing service.
  20.    Understand and implement the Microsoft Network Monitor.
  21.    Describe the structure and architecture that make up the domain name system (DNS).
  22.    Describe the contents of the DNS database files.
  23.    Explain how DNS integrates with the Microsoft Active Directory Service.
  24.    Explain and understand the features of TCP/IP printing services in Windows 2000.
  25.    Explain and understand the features of IPSec in relation to Windows 2000 networking.
  26.    Explain the purpose of simple network management protocol (SNMP).
  27.    Use Windows 2000 utilities for diagnosing problems.
  28.    Troubleshoot an IP network using TCP/IP utilities.
