FRENCH SCIENTIFIC TEAM

GEOLOGY OF THE JURAS MOUNTAINS

SIMULATION GUIDE

Your team’s leader is Dr. Montagne, University of Chardonnay.

You have been mapping the rocks of the Jura mountains in France.  By taking rock samples from exposed faces, and by looking at thin sections of them under a microscope, you have recorded which rock types belong in which places.

You find that the sedimentary rocks of the Jura have been both gently folded and faulted.  A cross section showing their probalbe structure is included below.

You do not know how your results will be interpreted by other scientists.
