The Forever War, by Joe Haldeman

One Sentence Synopsis:
As humanity fights an interstellar conflict, the physics of travelling from battle to battle through the universe allow one embittered soldier to watch thousands of years of human evolution during his lifetime in this sci-fi homage to the Vietnam war.

I like it because it gives an interesting look at wars in the future, where Einstein rears his relativistic head. I sent it because a couple of you expressed an interest in it when I listed the books I had - not an exciting reason - but the truth. I think in a lot of ways this is a better book than its cousin, Starship Troopers - in some ways the socio-political stuff is better thought out.

Really enjoyed the story and scifi concepts. Built on the back of Einstein. Some of the comcepts were well outdated but like all the scifi books written in the 1900's (just had to do that!) presents items and ideas still amazing to consider. I found myself hoping the characters would get together and stay together. The ending was a bit too tidy but seemed to be the only conclusion based upon the direction of the story.

   B+

Excellent concepts and dialogue, though needed more in-depth characterization and plot thickening. Ahead of its time. I haven't read the 2 sequels but would like to.

Interesting concept, and good characters. Thought many of the concepts of human evolution were too dated; sci-fi stuck in 60's morality. Disagree with Mixer; Starship Troopers is a better read, and questions of morals and society more clearly addressed.
