This is the first of a long series of books surrounding the central characters. It shows in the lack of depth in the story and character development. Its a fun book - especially to look into the life of a monk.

Have seen show on TV and liked medieval mystery concept but wanted more flesh in the story, which perhaps occurs in later novels. Also wanted more history into very likeable main character.

Never been a fan of mysteries, but enjoyed this one through the end, mostly due to very likable characters and interesting set-up using time period and lack of scientific investigation. Not enough to get me into the genre, but good read.
