Children
Children represent our future. Parents can hope to accomplish the dreams and aspirations they were unable to fulfill during their lifetime through their children. People work hard to give their children the best education and material comfort. Why is that so? Not only are they motivated to better their children's lives, there is a subconscious desire to fufill their unrealized dreams and aspirations through their children. Each generation utilizes its entire resources to enable the next generation to attain what it had aspired but failed to achieve within its own lifetime (e.g. intellectual achievement, material achievement and/or social achievement) because of various constraints. Because children carry their parents' blood in their veins and are their parents' images, it is of great consolation to parents who see their children better their own achievements and accomplish what they themselves could not do.
It is this perpetual drive for each succeeding generation to surpass its predecessors that refines and strengthens the human genes. Because life is short, humans deteriorate physically through ageing and circumstances limit one's possible achievements in life, children become the means to realize Man's dreams, aspirations and fantasies by proxy. To the owner and creator of this web page, the greatest consolation to him at deathbed would be the knowledge that his children far surpass him in intellect, ambitions, potential and virtue. He can then go in peace knowing his children can and will complete the unfinished work he left behind. However great one's ambition and aspirations are, Man cannot fight God or Providence. If the powers above condemns one's ambition and aspirations to failure, then one has to look to his or her children to fulfill them by proxy.
Having said thus however, one must be conscious that while people can choose whether or not to become parents, a child has no control over his/her birth and cannot choose his/her parents. A child is simply the product of a human biological act. But the environment a child is born into has implications on his/her lot and development. It is not fair to a child to be born into an environment where he/she has to struggle throughout life because of socio-economic limitations. So the responsible and decent thing to do is "If You Don't Have the Means to Endower Your Child with the Resources to Be Able to Compete and Be Successful in this Harsh World, Don't Create Them" This is the principle the owner and creator of this web page adheres to staunchly in deciding whether or not to have children.
